......about guarantees.......and when you find out what cabin you will be getting!
I am sure there are more than a few of you who, over the years have possibly booked a guarantee.....just wondered, how long before you actually found out what cabin you will be assigned. This is the first time on a guarantee for me.
Should I have it before I get to the port?..........I keep checking the HAL website...still no cabin listed.
My TA said I should have it before I go......just wondered about any of yall's experiences.
Thanks:)

:) Lois I didn't get my cabin number until a week prior to sailing. Some people get theirs only at the pier. Good luck! :)

Hi Lois,
I think the last time I had a guarantee, I found out a week before.
Funny thing is ...I still check the website all the time just like you do..:)
Actually it does make sense to get it close to cruising time. The ship is nearly filled and HAL has had a chance to sort out where everyone will be.

We have done a couple of guarantees. Once we received our cabin number about 10 -14 days before our cruise, and a couple of other times it was about a week.
I have heard of cases were the cabin number was not available until you get to the dock. Start checking with your travel agent about 10 before your cruise.

I just today called HAL and my cruise 'agent and they both told me that I should have the cabin # a week prior to our cruise - one can only hope - LOL

Yep, I'm anxiously checking the immigration form on the website as well. I sail on the Statendam from Seward on Aug. 22nd, but we start our CruiseTour on the 19th. Actually, we leave home on the 15th cause we're traveling on our own for four days. Anyway, I got my documents last Friday, but they had no cabin assigned. I check the website at least twice a day, and no assignment. I guess, I may have to wait until we get to the ship (45 minutes before it sails!!). You know, I read on this board that even if you do see your cabin assignment pop up on the immigration form, that when you get to the pier, it might be different! Can't wait!!! Charlene

Lois i have booked a guarantee many times i find the longer the wait for the room the better the cabin is i had talked to hal rep about this and she had stted that to me, if it gets very close to your cruise call hal tell them you are needing your cabin number since you haven't received it yet sometimes that works but as for me the longer the wait the better cabin assignment.it has worked that way for m but now adays with hal you never know. Don't fret and keep checking. deb blue

I usually receive word on guarantees the week before sailing. Sometimes two weeks. It is nerve wracking, I know. Since you have a few weeks to go, start to picture yourself in a balcony cabin with lots of space and a glorious view. Really..... Creative visualization works!

:)
Every couple of days, pretend to start filling out your immigration form. Once the cabin number has been assigned, it will appear on the immigration form. Hopefully you will get your cabin number before you get to the pier - other wise that information will appear blank on the form.

In part, it depends upon how close your cruise is to selling out. If it's very close, they'll probably go ahead and assign guarantees before trying discount the very last few cabins. That can happen early for a quickly selling ship. I know one guy who got his assignment nearly a month before the cruise. Usually, that doesn't happen until the last 2 or 3 weeks. The times I've gone guarantee I've been assigned about 10 days out. On the other hand, my parents have gone to the pier not knowing to which cabin they've been assigned.
Booking guarantees is like gambling. One has the assurance of "winning" in that one WILL be on the ship; but you don't know WHERE on the ship you'll be. Usually you're within a few categories of what you booked; however, I once met a guy who claimed he had booked a ROS ("Run of the Ship") Guarantee and, when it came time to book, all they had was a Suite that had been canceled. :) If he was telling me the truth, that's amazing. If I were to book an ROS I'd get an NN category.
