we booked with an online/internet agency (using phone and talking to real person though) and have received a ship credit after the booking.....how does that affect the TA? who actually gives the shipboard credit? and can you get more than one promo for credit? i see that there is a possible AARP credit...it may apply to our sailing and may not....but that would give us 2.

does the shipboard credit affect a guarantee cabin? ie: if we got a credit and are hoping for an upgrade will we have less of a chance of the upgrade fairy visiting? do you tick off TAs by asking about shipboard credit possiblilties? do they get reduced commissions as a result??

Some TAs will offer a token shipboard credit as a thank-you for your business. This comes off their bottom line. The promos are offered by the cruise line, and do not affect the TA's commission. The promos are generally based on the length of cruise and category of cabin you book. Booking a guarantee won't affect the onboard credit at all. The AARP discount is virtually useless, as it is not combinable with most any other discount. I've tried every time, but other deals have far surpassed what AARP gets you. By all means ask your TA to explore any and all shipboard credit possibilities. He/she will be happy to do so, because if they get you an additional one you will be a happy camper and will likely be back to see them next time you book a cruise.

:)

You can not get more than 1 shipboard credit. HAL doesn't let you combine, for example, shipboard credit if you own stock and shipboard credit for paying with the Am Ex Plat card. You have to select one or the other.

Years ago we tried to use AARP - got better credit elsewhere. Don't know if anyone has ever been able to use the AARP credit offer.

KK, I`ve never been able to use the AARP discount. If I have applied for it upon booking and rec`d it, then if and when prices go down they tell me I can`t get the AARP discount if I get the lower fare...jean

PS the only times I have had multiple cabin credits is when our kids send us a gift credit....they can`t touch those!!

There were a couple of cruises that we recieved the AARP and the stock credit, but that was awhile ago.
That credit that came with the Cruise News or whatever it is called, was turned down every time. Most of you know the one, they pass out a flyer on the ship about subscribing to it and you will recieve a credit. I think it was for 25.00.

OK, now I'm pouting.
My bro and I just booked 2 veranda cabins thru VTG (we both worked with the same TA) and got zero shipboard credits. When I sniveled to the TA, he said, nahhh, when they give a credit they just raise the price (which is apparently untrue.) We got an OK deal thru VTG, but not a great one.

This is for 10/16 Western Car in Zuiderdam. Is it water under the dam? Or is there anything we can do at this point to get any kind of shipboard credit?

Tell your TA that you know of people who are gettin g a HAL credit for cruises this fall in the carib. Quote him either promo 7031 if you are new to HAL or 7032 if you are a Mariner. It is $50pp outside cabin and $25 pp inside. Don`t take no for an answer....jean

It had such a short fuse it was impossible to use it! Expired before I could even think about booking a cruise.

Both promotion 7031 and 7032 are available on most fall HAL cruises. Demand that your TA look into it. It takes a little time for the TA to talk to HAL directly, however, they should offer you the opportunity to save a little money. It's just good business.

Give me your date and sailing so that I can check it for you. I talk to HAL at least five times a day.

I just hate it when the dot com agencies take the business but don't give the customer service! Sorry to vent......

For anyone receiving the credit after initially booking, make sure you get an updated invoice showing the credit and take it with you when you board. If the credit is not in your docs. at least you`ll have some ammo to fight with!!.....jean

Carol:

Could you check on the Thanksgiving sailing of the Zaandam (11/20/04-11/27/04) to see if 7031/7031 apply? I've been dealing with CVC on another promo that was e-mailed directly from HAL, but they seem unwilling to honor now. After 6 weeks of multiple weekly calls to CVC regarding this (and I threw in 7031/7032 for good measure two weeks ago) my TA got us $25.00 each, but also made it seem like it was the result of a personal favor owed him from someone at HAL and I should be grateful. Honestly, CVC has spent more than that on my 800 calls to them!! Anything you could let me know would be greatly appreciated.:)
