Has anyone booked airfare from Jfk to Athens and returning from Rome to JFK? Did you book non stop and extending ? It seems the cruise air is a good . Azamara is offering hotels, taxes, transportation and tranfers if you extend in Athens and Rome. Haven't totally finished pricing this all out w/out using the cruise line. Also does anyone know what the charge is from the port in Rome into the city? If you do not book the hotel with the cruise line it will cost $85.00 pp to be drop off at the central bus terminal and then you are on your own. Any advise and or info would be greatly appreciated. We are planning on one full day in Athens and at least 3 full days in Rome.

You might be able to get more info on the Europe board to help with your travel plans, along with a lot of info on the ports that you'll be visiting.

We did a Med cruise in '05 and booked our own air, hotels and transfers. If you are comfortable taking the train from Civitavecchia to Rome, it is very inexpensive (we paid 9E/pp for a return ticket). Lots of info on the Europe board on this topic.

I would probably take a taxi in Athens (from hotel to port)..there is a Metro subway/train, but it is bit of a hike (or local bus ride) from the Metro station to the cruise port. We took the Metro without luggage...and I don't think I would attempt it with luggage.

We are booked on the Quest cruise prior to yours and I agree that cruise air prices are very good.

Good luck with your plans.:)
