The rate for my September cruise on the Zuiderdam has gone down on both the HAL website and Cheaper Travel where I booked. Will they honor the new rate and give me a refund since I have already made the final payment?

Is Cheaper Travel the same as Pavlus Travel? I'm using them too, and would be curious to see if they honor the price reduction? I'm gonna check my cruise pricing too. Good catch

Cheaper travel is the online web site for Pavlus travel. I'm also curious, as that's who I'm using for both my booked cruises. In general, it's hard to get a price decrease after final payment, but sometimes you'll get an upgrade or some other perk. For DS and DIL's honeymoon that same thing happened (with a different agency). Couldn't get the price decrease, but they went from an inside to an outside room.

If you cannot get the difference in cash. Ask for it as an onboard credit.

Let me know the date. I will see if the new rate is an "across the board" decrease or a special promotion for new bookings only.

Thanks for the idea. Shipboard credit would be fine. They are not open yet. I'll let you know after I talk to them.

Hope you do. I work with a TA that gets me the reduced fare after final payment. Last cruise it was 10 days before departure. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

When a cruise price goes down after final payment is made, it has to be at least 10% less than the original price you paid....at least that is what HAL told me their policy is.....jean

The cruise is for September 25 on the Zuiderdam. We are booked in a suite "S" category. The price on the Hal website is $1,176 and Cheaper Travel is $1,056.

KaKcruiser,
Have you tried contacting Pavlus?

Good news. Pavlus just emailed me and they got the price reduction. I had called HAL earlier and they said it was promo #300. It was supposed to be for new bookings only but they indicated it could be adjusted if a supervisor was contacted. In the meantime, Pavlus came through. I was really impressed with them.

Glad to hear you got the price reduction. I've got final payment due on Monday, but lately the prices have been going up for my cruise.

It just hit me, an 'S' suite for $1056. Not bad at all. We're booked on the Zuiderdam next March. The 'S' suites are over $1600.

:)
A couple of times, prices have gone down on cruises after we made final payment. We were credited with the savings on our credit card.

I talked with HAL a little while ago and it was suggested to me that those of you that have already booked through a TA, call HAL first to ask about price reductions. Ask for the best price on your ship and sailing date and category. Also ask for the promo number that HAL used to come up with that fare.
If the fare quoted by HAL is lower, give the info to your TA and ask for the discount.
Promo 300 has some quirky rules, though if the change is requested after final payment has been made. Ask HAL for the details. If I get a print out I will post it.

How far after anyone has made their final payment did the price go down? My final payment isnt due until Sept 5th and I was wondering if the price will go down before then or right after that?

I don't think you can predict when and IF the price will go down. On my last cruise (different cruiseline) it went down 2 weeks before sailing. So.. you can never tell - just keep watching the prices. If your sailing is pretty full, odds are they will not go down.
