On our Sun & Dawn cruise, getting our cruise card was pretty much the last thing we did before having the embarkation photo taken. I was talking to Rahna (Toasted2) today while they were waiting to go through security check and they already had theirs. Apparently they got them when they dropped off their luggage. Has anybody else go theirs at that stage? Just thinking it must be a new thing:confused:

No....never heard of anything like that. Not even for any other cruiseline.
The only thing that has been different for me, is that in the past, we checked in, and going through security was the last thing before boarding.

At Portside in September;
1) Luggage drop off outside the terminal and given boarding card
2) When boarding number called - through doors into terminal - first stop was checkin, credit card authorisation & receiving cruise card
3) then customs/immigration/duty free
4) then through security
5) then embarkation photo
6) then onboard - smile for the A-card camera
Sounds strange that they got their cruise card when dropping off the luggage. As I recall about our one cruise from Darling Harbour that's done at a seperate area outside the main terminal. I would have thought the only thing they would get given at Luggage Checkin is the numbered (well lettered) boarding card.

Hi
Just got off Dawn today, yes we got our cruise card at checkin, and then into customs and onto ship to have photo taken.

Will find out more when she gets back I suppose. We were chatting on mobiles & she was a little over excited. Maybe I misunderstood. But when we went a few weeks ago we got ours just before embarkation photo.

What if you have P&O transfers from the airport?
The transfer drops you off where you need to start lining up and they take your luggage to be checked in.

They have changed the boarding process at Darling Harbour. After dropping your luggage at the door outside the terminal ( you need to show your passport to drop off the luggage)-you now line up at the long counter to give your credit card details and receive your cruise card in the terminal before you disappear behind the wall into customs/immigration security screening etc,so your friend would have had her cruise card to show family and friends. It seemed to cut down the long queues doing it this way.We checked in,got our cards then went straight through into immigration when we were ready. I'm curious to know if they are now able to use the top deck of the terminal to board,as the Dawn is so much bigger than the Sun.That long steep climb up the gangway to the Sun was a killer when lugging all your hand luggage, soft drinks etc!

Even though the Dawn is a taller ship, you still enter on deck 5 so you are entering the ship at the same level as you would the Sun.

I did notice in Brisbane a couple of weeks ago that people were wearing their curise cards before they went into the boarding area, so we thought that they must be giving them out early in brisbane too, because i thought that oncve you went behind the wall there was no coming back and there wasnt just one couple wearing them the were heaps.
Cheers,

ok so where do we go to get our cruise cards if our transfer driver takes our suitcases for us?
I assume they would direct us to where we can go to get our cruise cards?

In Brisbane, once your boarding card letter has been called, (which you get when your luggage is taken) then you go through the main entrance to the terminal, and the first desk you come to will issue your cruise cards. Then you go up through security, etc.
Anyone you see wandering around Portside with cruise cards has probably come off the ship that morning off the previous cruise.

I've cruised out of Darling Harbour 4 times, and apart from the first 2 which were only 3 months apart, each time we've boarded a different way. The first 2 times onto Fair Princess we boarded from the top deck, up a steep escalator from the embarkation hall to the gangway, which came out onto the Promenade deck outside.
Pacific Sky was a gangway from the lower level of DH into the Pursers lobby, and Pacific Sun was up several flights of stairs onto a gangway.

Hi
When we boarded the Dawn on 7/12/07, we had escalators to use to go up to boarding level.

Actually, now you've said that I do remember coming down escalators to get off that day.
