I have been encouraged to set up this thread to find a name for my next ship in the shipbuilding contest. I will be cruising on the Volendam Feb 22. So far I have had several suggestions. The two that stand out so far are: Holendam (Hole In Dam), could put an iceburg on the side of the ship, :D , Pollndam, (Poll in Dam), I will be sailing during caucus and election time. Oh, one more is pretty good.....Volendarn. :D C'mon CCers help me name that ship.

Ahoy!
Political science has always been somewhat of an oxymoron. Perhaps appropriate names to be considered would be :
AspersionDam
BackbitingDam
Bon Voyage and Good Health!
I look forward to your coming ship building activities / reports.

Well, one thing is for sure. You will be making more ships So, choose one name and save another for latter. I hope you pick your name. I have never won a "name it" contest and that one came to me before I even read anyone elses responses.
When is your next cruise?

Election time a comin'?
How about "Voterdam" or do a little campaigning yourself with the "Vote4medam." You could have your own little caucus at the pool with flags, banners, and campaign slogans.

Tricia, you have me giggling big time. How funny would that be? It's in the top 5 right now. Winnerdam, ok, but I think it's a bit pushy. ;)

This is kinda gross, but how about the VomitDam, you could have people being sea sick over the side..... Or the VulgarDam, this ship could be filled with mean and rude people....:D
P.s. I hope to see your prize winning ship soon on the Noordam. Hope it is still there.....

A vole is a small rodent resembling a mouse but with a stouter body, a shorter hairy tail, a slightly rounder head, and smaller ears and eyes, so how about the Voledam with all kinds of mice like creatures, maybe a vole with Captain stripes, etc, one with a Chefs hat?, maybe one or 2 sunbathing in bikini's, in the hot tub, eating cheese at a buffet?
Or Lastdam, as this will be the last one of this series.
How about Olivedam,( see name below), or Martinidam, you could make everything a little crooked. Or Bolsdam, Bols being a Dutch company that makes gin and vodka etc..
Whatever you choose I'm sure it will be fantastic!

I would like to withdraw my first suggested name. I've decided that "Tampadam" was totally rediculous:( so I've come up with "Clintondam". :)

I thought I had a wild immagination. Great names!!! I had the Antsterdam a couple of cruises ago. I had ants all over the ship. They were in the pool, at the bar, playing volleyball. I even had a worker ant on the front of the ship. Was very cool. Keep 'em comin'.

All I want to say is, If I ever get on the same ship as you...I will have to name MY ship "NOTAPRAYERDAM". I have done shipbuilding seven or eight times. I have never seen anyone produce a ship like yours. It was the most remarkable ship I have seen in all the time I have been doing this contest. You have raised the bar to an incredible height. You certainly deserve to win when you invest that much energy into the project.
Mary
p.s. you aren't on the 2/3 to Hawaii?
or the 6/28 out of Montreal?
Do I still have a chance to win on one of those cruises?

Love that name!!! Too funny. Mary, believe it or not, my ship did not win on the Maasdam two cruises ago. It didn't even place. It was a replica of the Maasdam and I called it the Antsterdam. Everyone was in shock. I have always said, I don't care if I win or lose, I just love building the little ships. After all, I have just about every Dam prize they have ever offered. I usually give my prizes away. Thanks for the wonderful post. Snoredam....OUT.

I think there is such a thing as being too good. Even though you know and follow all the rules meticulously, people (and judges) may think you have "pre-prepared" (is that a word?) somehow.....and will penalize you for it rather than giving you the credit you deserve. You simply blow everyone else out of the water.....so to speak.....and maybe that occasionally works against you rather than for you.
I remember years ago when they used to have costume contests onboard the ships, and you were supposed to make up a costume with items you found onboard. Some people who cruised often were ingenious about their designs and themes and were way more imaginative than the average person who just walked on and decided to participate. They no doubt had the zest for that contest that you have for shipbuilding.
I admire creativity in any form, and I understand what it's like to get wrapped up in a project like you do in yours. You are already a winner when you carry your ship out on deck.

And lest I forget, my final hairbrained ship names:
Vinodam - for all the wine lovers among us
Veterandam - for the many HAL Mariners
Volumedam - for everyone onboard who thinks the music is too loud

How about some suggestions for Super Bowl named ship? I'm on Jan. 26 Noordam. Have no idea how to build a ship, but I'll try.
