Anyone been to the Radio Telescope Observatory tour at Arecibo in P.R. while visiting San Juan? The response on the POC Boards is ...lax.
Thanks in advance

That must be a full day tour, isn't it? I thought Arecibo was pretty far from San Juan. That tour has never been offered on a cruise we have taken (but Dec will be our first HAL cruise. My husband would be salivating at the thought of going there.

LOL-How many times have you seen Contact?

I toured Arecibo in 1972 when I was stationed at Ramey Air Base as a member of the USAF's Hurricane Hunter Squadron, now at Keesler AB. Ours was not a commercial tour. My group was guided as guest of the site director. We found the visit extremely fascinating. As I recall, there was a brief film describing the operation. You will certainly enjoy a tour if you're interested in either the equipment or radio telescopy, but it is not designed for entertainment. Of course, the surrounding scenery is impressive. The Arecibo home page is currently unavailable; however, the following web site provides a decent overview:

Who is offering the tour? It's not listed in HAL's brochure.

Not a HAL tour. Shoretrips is one vendor, there may be others, thats what I am trying to ascertain. Good friend is doing post-doc work for the same umbrella organization and may be able to get me an insiders tour. Time may be tight though as it is not near SJ. Thanks for the link.
