Just a quickie..is it worthwhile taking thermos mugs for a early (5 am)coffee on our balcony? I was planning to buy the short fat ones this time, even though they hoard luggage space. Is room service operating so early? If I take mugs, where is the best coffee located ? We are on Caribe "C" deck(Sun Princess).
Thanks,
Anna

Room service is supposedly 24hrs (I had a 1am hot dog). Room service coffee is a pot of 5 or 6 cups worth.
The only place you can refill the mugs is Horizon Court, where the coffee is BAD. Also only place I saw boiling water, where you could add your own coffee. Did not see the usual ice or boiling water stations, I guess due to room service and there is a tub of ice cubes in the fridge that the cabin attendant replaces each day. (Our packed Thermos mugs are still new)

On all the Princess ships I have been on..coffee has been bad. Take my tip, pack some Robert Timms coffee bags and take them to brekkie with you, or some of those little sachets of Nescafe' (motel type ones.) Better then the stuff from the machines.

The coffee card - cappucinos are OK, but they should provide a decent coffee anyway. A lot of the Americans on Princess section take their own coffee on, because they are coffee nuts, fair enough too.

Cheers..Les

We found the dining room coffee to be reasonable too

Gee we are soundling like Princess coffee whingers on here!! Anyway..yes Geoff, Princess dining Room coffee is generally OK, fresh brewed and maybe not made from the coffee syrup they put in the dispensers in the Buffets. I saw them loading this thick syrupy stuff into the hot drink dispensers..coffee syrup, yuk.! I used to make my iced coffees at the buffets, ice, one quarter coffee from the dispenser and then top with milk, quite nice.! Iced teas are nice too.

Cheers..Les:cool:

Either that Les, or the dining room waiters have worked out the 3\4 milk recipe too! :D

Thanks Geoff and Les re the coffee tips. Think I will save my thermos mug purchase money and invest in a coffee card, and some good sachets. So is the room service "free", Geoff? I do like the sound of the pot (5-6 cup size).
By the way, hope you're firing on all pistons now Geoff.

If you find the sachets anywhere please tell me where. I looked everywhere for them (must be Nescafe) before our cruise & couldn't find them. I ended up buying very tiny plastic bags from the tobacconist (drug bags?? ) and put a teaspoon of coffee into each one of them. No hassle really & probably cheaper than the sachets anyway. We did take our travel mugs. Didn't use them a lot but I think we'll take them again next time. Was particularly useful for the morning we arrived back in Sydney, up on deck with a coffee.......much safer in a mug with a lid.

Hi guys

Not much of a coffee drinker myself, but storing coffee in 'new' coin bags from the bank would be a great idea. They're free.

Yes, but don't they have holes in them? The bags I got were very cheap & no holes:) .

Room service is free (for most items) + optional tip. Most pistons are back in time for going back to work.

We were going to take some of the Nestle cappucino sachets (until we realised they had gluten). Ended up taking a tube of the old Coffee & condensed milk, but didn't use. Half a tube might make horizon court coffee drinkable (just)
