On the Pacific Dawn are passengers supplied with Laundry Powder? If not can you purchase it on board or do we have to take our own.
Thanks very much,
Jodie

You can buy it from a machine in the laundry. $1 for one load. Machines & dryers are also $1 so take a few $1 coins with you.

We just bought one of those cheap Australia made washing powder for around $2.00 for a Kilo. we figure that if you take your own you not only save money but you know the quality of the powder, some people have allergies to certain chemical. please take my advice and stick to a powder that you know and trust and avoid the skin rashes and itches that can be caused by some washing powders.

Ditto: Take a small (double bagged) ziploc bag with your own powder soap.
Don't take any chances.
What if the machine is out.
What if your skin reacts to the ship powder?
What if... what if....:o

The Pacific Dawn has a very large laundry, so thankfuly not much chance of all the machine being out of action at the one time. but hand washing the undies, bras, and swimmers would be a good idea. quick, easy and would dry overnight in the bathroom.

We always take some pegs (maybe 10) so we can hang our undies and swimmers on the line in the shower. There is a retractable line, but no pegs and clothes dry quicker if they are hung with pegs rather than doubled over the line. Many items will dry overnight.:)

We had enormous trouble getting anything to dry in our cabin last Jan/Feb (we were in an inside cabin) - even togs didn't dry over night hanging in the shower!
We get washing powder that comes in disolvable sachets (I think it's Radiant brand) that we take camping with us ... I'm planning on taking some of that with us (doesn't spill and easy to handle - you just throw the entire sachet in with the load of washing - the outer coating dissolves in water. If need be you can break open a sachet if you want to hand wash..

Totally agree here! My hubby gets ecsma (sp) and a change in laundry powder can be enough to trigger it. I usually take an old travel size shampoo bottle full of laundry powder and another one with fabric softener in it. I do a big wash towards the end of the cruise and that way I only have to wash once and I can just throw out the empty bottles. It always gets used and doesn't take up much space at all in your bags.

Thank you everyone for your replies.:)
We will take some of our own laundry powder in a bottle, then we wont have to worry about the what if's. :)

My DH gets my washing powder through someone at work and I always order a couple at a time. You know, those 20kg boxes. Anyway, a few yaers ago he brought some home & one of the boxes turned out to be sachets. Rather than use them I decided to keep them & use them for holidays. We take them camping and we took them on both cruises so I didn't buy any but I did take note of the cost because I knew someone was bound to ask how much. Clothes don't dry very well in the shower but if you use one of those hanger things with pegs & hang it in the cabin they will dry overnight. I also bought a plastic hanger thing that has about 8 coathangers on it instead of pegs. It's great & well worth the $10 I paid for it.

It's a very handy little device. Even comes in handy during soccer season when it's my turn to wash the shirts & it's raining. Can't put them in the dryer:) . I got it from Avon would you believe. I think it cost me $10.

We were very impressed with the laundry on the Dawn. There was 10 washing machines & dryers in each laundry. Plus we were surprised to see that the laundries were open while we were in port and at anchor. They must store the waste water & pump it out when we get back to the open seas.
Cheers,
Charmain:)

Also loved the dryers, they worked really well, not like on previous ships whic take more than one round :)
