Of course I can't predict how it will be on your cruise, but I can tell you how it was on mine. I've done this cruise in October twice. Both times the first day out and the last day back were a bit on the cool side. One day closer to Hawaii on each leg was warm, the rest of the days were very warm to hot.

Now understand, I'm from New England, so my definition of "hot" may not be the same as yours. ;)

This is a great cruise with lots of long, lingering sea days. Hawaii is beautiful, then a relaxing ride back. Have a good time.

We did this cruise this year in October on Serenade of the Seas. Agree with RuthC that the couple of days after leaving SanDiego and returning, it will be quite cool. Reason, you are crossing the Alaska current which comes down the coast from North to South and we are lucky here if the water temp. gets to 70 in the summer(it is high 50s right now) The Pacific Ocean is not the warm Caribbean or Gulf of Mexico and on our cruise we did not have one day I would consider "hot" Take casual clothes you can layer - sweater, windbreaker - when a ship is going 20+ knots into the wind, it can feel cooler than it really is because of high humidity.:) :)

Recognizing that many place names have changed in the last 50 years, I don't believe that the name of the Japanese Current has been changed to the Alaska Current.

The Japanese Current flows South along the Left Coast, after having crossed the Pacific past the Kuril Islands and the Aleutian Islands.

That causes some chop and cooler weather leaving San Diego, but it usually smooths out and warms up the 2nd (or 3rd) day out.

There is a roll call that has been started for that sailing. It's not very active yet, but it will be. I am also on that sailing. Let's hope for some warm balcony weather.

Are you part of the poker group that is on that sailing?

Here is the link to the roll call for your cruise:

You can ask questions and get some answers there, as well. And meet people who will be on the cruise with you.

Thank you Michael, I promise not to make such a bad error in the future even though my recent Rand McNalley clearly says Alaska current. I am sure that the OP got the gist of my post, but again, thank you. :) :)

Hi Hugh!
I'll agree with you both :D We've done a few times (or the Vancouver to Hawaii) and it's always kind of chilly for the first couple days out .... then BEAUTIFUL.

We're heading out of San Diego again soon for an Oosterdam Mexican Riviera .... boy I sure hope that the situation in the SD pier has improved since our Serenade trip, eh? That was a nightmare

Hi 1050, We, too, are headed out on the Oosterdam to the MexRiv on March 1 - same ship and same accessible suite we had when we did it 2 years ago. Should be no pier problems this time because we are the only ship in port when we leave. Have you checked the port schedule for you date which is_____?:)
