How much does it cost and how many coffees does it buy? Does it include cappucinos?

On the HAL Gift Order Form, there's a "Explorations Cafe Coffee Card for 10 coffee beverages" -- Costs $34.39 ($29.90+15%).

Does it include cappucinos?

Yes.

Our experience has been that it is less expensive to just buy it by the cup.

Yes, it depends on how elaborate your preferred drink is. I usually get a double espresso, which is $1.70 - so a card is not useful.

A cappuccino Grande is $2.60, the tall is $2.10. An iced Americano Grande is $2.10, the tall is $1.60. A Latte Grande is $2.60, the tall is $2.10.

A Caramello Latte Grande at $3.05, as is a Classic Latte Creamice Grande. I presume the card is good for the TeaItalia Fruit Smoothie Grande at $3.45. There is a daily special for $4.75 (Grande) - I have no idea what those are.

I know on Princess it did not include the iced coffees-which in the caribbean I was more interested in having. On Princess though you got 15 coffees for $28 including tip last year in Oct. 06 -so I still got a good value.

My only gripes was the iced coffees were not included and also when we got to our stateroom I had a $5 off coupon as a previous cruiser and I had already bought it-not knowing.

Celebrity did not offer a coffee card -my guess is I bought around the same amount (15) so I guess I spent around $45 or a little more (most charges were $3.25 with tip for one coffee/latte-which is what I usually picked)-so I when I factor in the tip. so I beleive HAL's price is still good.

If I were to buy the $1.70 ones- I would not put them on a coffee card.

 I hope the gist of this post and replies is that one pays for the 'fancy' coffee beverages -- lattes, espressos, etc - but please tell me that HAL doesn't charge for a cup of ordinary 'joe'????

HAL doesn't charge for a cup of ordinary 'joe'. Get it in the Lido or the dining room, though.

I thought I read in a thread last year that you can pick out a pastry from the case to go with your coffee when you use the card.

Not that you couldn't go up to the Lido to do the same, I suppose....

Sounds like if your normal drink doesn't cost at least $3, the card doesn't make sense to get. So does anyone have the full menu/prices for the coffee drinks?

I do believe that you do pay for their specialty coffees, even if not espresso drinks. Can someone confirm/refute?

At the specialty coffee bar in the corner of the library (Explorations Cafe) you can buy a coffee card (10 drinks?)...I think each punch is good for whatever they serve but don't quote me on that! There are quite a few pastries available too that looked very good...we never tried one though!

"Regular Joe" is available all day in the Lido.

It's been a year since I've been on the Noordam so I don't recall. Think Starbucks. Very similar to that.

I actually don't go for the pastrys much. I like the coffeee drinks like cappacinos and lattes. I usually also bring my flavored splenda to add to the drink.

I guess it would still be a good value for me as I never just buy the expresso.

When we were on Oosterdam in June, the pastries were no charge items. The lattes cost less than Starbucks but I didn't feel they were well prepared - they were entirely too hot.

Note that you do not need to "buy" a cappucino after dinner in the dining room, just order one and your waiter will bring it for you. The after dinner cappucinos were (in my opinion) better than the lattes in the Explorations Cafe (at least on my cruise with the barista I happened to have each time).

Also, for fellow Chai Latte lovers... the Windstar Cafe on the Zuiderdam serves very good Grande sized, for $2.00... I was very happy to see that pleasant surprise!

You can order any 10 beverages on the menu for that price....even hot chocolate, which was delicious.

If I am understanding this right, cappucinos in the dining room are available just for asking, withOUT a charge . Is that correct? thanks.

Yes, that's true. In the Lido, regular coffee. In the Explorations Cafe, all kinds of specialty drinks at a charge. A very nice treat throughout the cruise!

How is the coffee in the Lido? I know it is absolutely terrible on Princess and have not been on HAL for a couple of years so needed an update.

Thanks

We had one on our last cruise and used it for smoothies every day. They were delish!
