I have very much enjoyed reading the various threads on this websites and have learned a great deal about what to expect on our cruise. I especially appreciated the tip on the promo shipboard credit.

My best friend and I are celebrating our 40th birthdays this year and this cruise in the meditterean is a first for us.

My question is - I am Canadian and therefore a diehard hockey fan. The World Cup of Hockey starts on the 30th. Does HAL have satellite and do you think that they get ESPN? Or do I have to get these games taped? Or should I get a life, haha??

Thanks for any help you can give.

On most ships, and I`m sure definitely in the Med. you will get International ESPN. They show a lot of International sports, especially soccer so I`m not sure if you`ll see North American hockey. Tape the games to be on the safe side....jean

You'll need both ESPN and ESPN2 to catch all of the games. I am not sure if HAL provides either of these. If you are worried about missing out on the games I'd say just tape 'em and that way you will have something to look forward to when you get back. No need to get a life, hockey is more important. :)

Just sailed from Harwich, England to Greece on Westerdam and the only channel we ever saw was CNN. ESPN was listed as being a channel but it was never on. It could be different on your cruise.
Have a wonderful trip.

:D im not sure when you are planning on watching hockey? Im sure your lovely, charming, and very witty best friend will not appreciate this much. Who would want to watch a hockey game when they could be enjoying the european sites, and hanging out having a few drinks???? I also would highly recommend you tape the games.....your lovely charming best friend...

Westerdam has a sports bar that carries ESPN. We were in the Eastern Med and due to time zone differences nothing much of interest was on in North America. I'm not sure if it was International ESPN.

All the Caribbean cruises on Hal have ESPN International in the casino bar. You might luck out and catch a game or two. Sometimes the games are delayed broadcasts. Our last cruise a playoff game came on at midnight. :(
Your best bet is to tape the games. :)
