I'm thinking of booking a hawaii cruise for dh (his retirement) the Zaandam is doing the route I want, but I'm a bit nervous about booking on her after reading about the Eurodam mess. How likely is it to the "Hal experts" think it is to being "bumped" and how close to the cruise will I need to wait to make sure I won't lose money on airline tickets (I'm plan on using my ff miles) and hotels?

Thanks

My understanding is that HAL's Hawaiian cruises are 15 or more days, correct? You're less likely to encounter a large group or charter situation on a cruise longer than 7 days. I'd go ahead and book.

I'm with Roz. It is HIGHLY unlikely that a group would charter this long a cruise. So go ahead and enjoy the beautiful ms Zaandam.

But ... there's a chance that the 15 days could be split into a charter and an 8-day open cruise. Probably slight.

If you use FFmiles I think you have less to worry about than others since they can be redeposited. Areb't those cruise long?

I doubt a large group would charter a cruise that required expensive open jaw airfare. I still think a 15-day Hawaiian cruise is 99% bump proof.

How would a charter work? They would sail across the Pacific and then do half the islands? Or do the Pacific and the islands and then not return? I don't get the logic here.

RozNo, I'm saying the 15 days could be split into, say, two Mex Riviera runs, one charter and one not. Or two charters.

Very little chance that you would have your cruise chartered as it is 15 days in length.
