Just curious if anyone has ever shipped home the souvenirs you buy from Alaska and what the cost might be? My husband can not go with us this time and would really like me to bring back some Alaska Ale. This is a rather heavy item and since i love to shop also - my suitcase would be over stuffed and extremely heavy which i want to avoid.

Don't know about Nevada, but here in PA if you ship liquor of any type (beer included), from another state to your home, you have to pay state taxes - hefty here.
We have shipped home Salmon - about $10 per order.

We brought home the ale and shipped the lighter weight items from port. My husband wrapped 6 bottles of amber ale in his suitcase and put three bottles in his carry on. I did the same. He was soooooo happy.
It is not unusual for us to ship home items via priority mail (in US ports) so that we have room to bring more fragile stuff in their palace.

Great suggestion! Also, use the allotted baggage amount by the airlines, even if you go with one nearly empty suitcase. I always travel with one extra when I can for all the stuff you need to bring back :) This applies to even carry on bags.

Most of the shops in Alaska have a shipping service. We made use of this since the items my son purchased were a sword for his collection and a scrimshaw kninfe. Both items were shipped by the shop and the price of the shipping was very reasonable. They asked what day we would be home so they could coordinate the shipping. We got all of the items in excellent condition and would do so again without hesitation.

The laws about shipping alcohol interstate are many and varied. I'm not sure if beer is included in the laws, or if they just cover wine and hard liquor. Before you try to ship any kind of alcohol to your home state, you should check out your state laws.

Legally. Although large amounts of "marine samples" seem to be shipped to the most restrictive states....:)

You can get a shipping cost estimate at:

Don't know about shipping bottled goods, but I suppose the shop could pack, and probably, ship it for you.
Have you considered contacting the brewing company and inquiring about case shipments? I do this with grocery items that aren't carried locally. I pay less than retail, which makes up for the shipping cost.

Try collecting magnets as souvenirs. No shipping required! ;)
