Well after about three weeks..We finally got our birth certs. from my wifes mother. She keeps ours locked away in a fireproof safe.. Anyrate.. My son's and mine are the newer ones with the raised seal on it. Mine is newer because I was adopted by my mothers latest husband 15 years ago..

My wifes on the other hand is the one that was issued to her from 1975.. Its just plain white and says Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Health on it.. It states Birth registration notice.. Its all typed.. But I don't think they did raised seals back then???Our state logo is on hers just like ours, just not raised?

This is the birth cert. that her mom recieved in the mail after she was born. Will this be ok to use? Should I call someone? Help....I pray this is ok along with her drivers license....

Can anyone offer me some insight on how old thier birth certs are and if it was ok...

Thanks
Spankey

I found this here http://www.dsf.health.state.pa.us/health/cwp/view.asp?a=168&Q=202331#Q8 It stated that in 1975 they went to the raised seal. The thing that stumps me is she was born in 75? Could she be one of the ones that this didn't affect as of the implimentation?

Is a raised seal required to make a birth certificate official?
Yes. The Certification of Birth form that the Division of Vital Records has utilized since 1975 contains an embossed (raised) seal in the lower right corner.

I am from PA and was born in 1973. I used the original one once (before Sept 11) for a cruise. I was warned by the person checking us in to get an updated one. It was pretty easy and quick to send away for it from PA.
www.dsf.health.state.pa.us/health/cwp/view.asp?a=168&Q=202184 This is where you can apply for it

Thanks.

I did just that today.. AFter I called the department of health.. They stated that what my wife has is just a notice of registration of birth.. NOT a certificate.. So I paid the $17.00 to have them send her a new one...I just hope it doesn't take three weeks. It stated 5 to 7 days...

Thanks again
