We are sailing on the Westerdam Feb 3 - this weekend on Superbowl Sunday:eek: What was I thinking?? Especially since we are from Mass and the Patriots are playing - how was I to know when I booked this cruise months ago. If you could have seen the look on my husband's face a few weeks ago when he realized we were leaving on the day of the "Big Game"! Personally, I don't really care that much, but hubby - that's another story. I told him that he didn't have to go but did have to find a replacement. He didn't take the out but I know he will really miss seeing the game. Here's my ? - is anyone out there, who is either a Giant's or Patriots fan on the Westerdam Sunday? Are you planning a pre-game "tailgate party" and if so, where? we will be happy to meet up with whoever and bring whatever - would be great to have both teams represented.:) Does the Sports Bar T.V. pick up football games? I know this is short notice but I just now figured out how to use this forum.

I don't know about the Super Bowl but a few years ago my Zuiderdam cruise left on the day of a big college game. They broadcast the game in the Queen's lounge and provided popcorn. They did have to interrupt it for the life boat drill, however. Also, during the week (Thanksgiving) they set up large screen tvs in the Explorers Lounge for other games and provided hot dips and other snacks. So maybe you will luck out and will actually be able to see the game.

2 years ago on the Ryandam we saw the whole game. They had LCD tv's all over the ship with the game on so your husband need not worry about seeing the game.

In mid-December the Zuiderdam had Sunday football games on TV in the Sports Bar, so I would bet that all HAL ships leaving U.S. ports that day will be showing it! :D

I'm on the same cruise too. However, as a New Yorker, I'm a Giants fan but my wife is a Patriots fan (she's from Boston). Yes, for big televised events like this, there will be many ways to view the game on board. I'm sure there will be announcements made as well as some leaflets in the room on how/where to view it.

Enjoy the cruise and Go Giants!

We will be joining you on Sunday. Last year we sailed on the Veendam which also left on Super Bowl Sunday. They had a tailgate party in the Crows Nest. The game was shown on big screen TV, It was also available in the Sports Bar and in your cabin. Those of us from Wisconsin lost interest in the game a couple of weeks ago. You might be able to place a bet on the game in the casino. Also Monday we are having a Meet and Greet your fellow passengers. It is supposed to be in the Crows Nest at 3:30 PM. The Hotel Manager and Cruise Director are scheduled to attend. They usually will answer questions.

I'm sure there will be plenty of opportunity to watch the game. On The Zuiderdam in December we had Monday Night Football in the Queen's lounge with hamburgers and hot dogs and bucket of beer specials.

Super Bowl was the last thing on my mind when I booked our Zuiderdam cruise for last February. Unfortunately, I found out after I booked SB was on the Sunday after we sailed, and even worse, Super Bowl was in Miami!

We ended up having to use Holland for a hotel because we couldn't book one ourselves. We needed two nights, and no one would rent a room for 2 nights. The hotel we stayed at (the Marriott in Hollywood) was packed with Super Bowl people. Someone there mentioned that the rooms were going for over $600 a night...yikes! We didn't pay that much, thankfully.

The Z did have Super Bowl festivities and those that wanted to watch the game were able to do so. At 6:00 PM (your time may be different), the game was available in the Queen's Lounge, Crow's Nest & Sports Bar. The game was also available in the cabins, on channel 29.

The first thing I did when I started planning our next cruise was find out when and where the Super Bowl would be for 2009. If it was going to be in Miami, I wanted to make sure we were nowhere near Miami on that date. Of all the dates to pick, I somehow managed to pick SB weekend. lol I won't do that again! At least for the 2009 Super Bowl, we'll be on the beautiful HMC. Or maybe "I'll" be on the beautiful HMC, depending on the time the game is on. But I believe it's in Tampa in 2009, so the game will most likely be later in the day, at least I hope so. :)

We're not sailing til February 6...our daughter's birthday! So, we are having her family party here on Sunday. DH isn't too happy about that...wanting peace and quiet and concentration time for the Superbowl...we have 5 active young grandchildren who will be running around. I think he'd rather be on the ship!

Isn't it amazing how everything this time of year revolves around Super Bowl!

Good luck...I know you'll find lots of places to watch it...be prepared to not be around as many Pats fans as you would at home, though!

BTW, we were on the Caribbean Princess two years ago for the Super Bowl and watched on their Movies Under the Stars screen. It was wonderful!

It was not the Pats, though! :(

GO PATRIOTS!!!

Chances are excellent the game will be broadcast in Sports Bar, maybe Crows Nest and probably in cabins.

Whenever we have been aboard for a 'big game', HAL has always provided great game day snacks!

Have fun and enjoy watching Team Brady roll to a Perfect Season. :)

We were on board for the Superbowl in '06 but not HAL. The Caribbean Princess, and watched it on the huge screen...their MUTS (Movies Under the Stars). It was quite something to see.

Not the Pats, though! :( Pittsburg and ??? (I can't remember!).

Be prepared that you will not be in Patriots Nation where nearly everyone roots for the Pats. You'll just have to cheer louder!

GO PATRIOTS!
