We are taking a Thanksgiving cruise to Hawaii on the Statendam November 20. What is the weather like at this time of year for the 4 days of travel? We are looking forward to the trip. We've had to cancel a couple of cruises for health reasons and want to break the pattern.

From previous postings, I think that we will rent a car at each port and do our own sightseeing. For those of you who have done it, did it work out well? Did you see everything that you wanted?

Hi Georgia! I cannot answer your question as we have not done that trip, but would like to know as well, because we will be on the Statendam with you! I know that there are a number of regulars here who have made that trip. We are really looking forward to being on the Statendam again and to seeing Hawaii from the sea!

I have not only done this cruise, I have even done it at that time of year -- Thanksgiving. In 2002 the weather on our way to Hawaii was mixed ... it was chilly and overcast for about half of the transit, with rain and a storm the night before arrival in Hawaii. The seas were (at best) medium, but the Pacific swells were STRONG and this resulted in some people, who were only used to the Caribbean, turning several interesting shades of green. While I am highly susceptible to motion sickness myself, I always come prepared and wore a patch all the time while crossing from the mainland to the Islands; as a result, I didn't get sea sick -- even during the storm. But a lot of people did (Including Chris, who has a cast-iron stomach most of the time).

Hawaii was BEAUTIFUL. The weather was perfect, meaning what little rain we got was refreshing, and certainly not a problem.

Our return crossing to the mainland was much more calm ... the seas themselves were amazingly smooth, and the swells were much less pronounced.

Y'all will have a GREAT TIME. I want to do that cruise again someday. It's GREAT fun. And, having 10 full days at sea is fantastic. I was spoiled rotten.
