I have been seeing alot about the Noordam, but I don't see alot about the Oosterdam ship. Any thoughts about it...?
I have never been on a 5 star ship, so i am kinda excited to see what it is like, but since i am from the upper west coast i am also nervous, since I am used to extreme casual attire...

I was recently on the Oosterdam and had a great time! It is a great ship with great crew.
There is a suggested dress code for the dining room at night (2 formal, 5 smart casual). If you need suggestions on what to wear for dinner - just ask. During the day - you will see everything as some are near the pool, others are playing trivia, etc..
Have a great cruise!
BTW - have you cruised before or is this your first?

I just looked at your other posts and you said that you are in your teens. I am going to jump to the conclusion that you are a teen girl. Please forgive me if I am wrong.....
If you have a dress that you have worn to a prom or dance, that would be fine for formal night. If you don't have that, any nice dress will be perfect for dinner on formal night. As for the other nights, if you try to stay away from jeans, you will be fine. If you have some capri's and sandles for dinner, you will fit in fine!
I spoke with some teens on our sailing and they had a blast. Have a great time and definitely report back with your comments when you return.

I have taken a 4 day cruise to Bahama's 3 years ago on Carnival and a 11 day Hawaiin(spelling) cruise on Norwengian(spelling) last year.
I didn't go to prom or formal nights, but i have a halter-dress that i thought would work. It goes in a V inth front, and then the bottom is a silk skirt that has flowers on it. the colors are like brown, pinks and soft greens, and then the hem is real pretty, and really dresses it up. It is something that i would deffinatly feel is ok for a prom. and then on the other night i have a Black thick strap dress that draws attention to my waist and is real feminine. Both go with strappy heels... Sound ok?
And then for casual nights i was thinking just a Knee length black skirt and a pretty top and a pair of heels...
All are pretty modest and tastefull(i think) tell me if there is anything though that they wouldn't allow...
and yes btw i am a girl...

Up at the top of the page is a Search function - just Search for Oosterdam in the thread title in the Holland America forum and you'll get dozens of threads.
I was on the Jan. 5th cruise and there is a thread about that. It was a somewhat controversial cruise, since we had to board late on Saturday due to the ship being sanitized after a small Norovirus outbreak, plus being in Code Red the whole cruise, plus it being the inauguration of the As You Wish Dining on the ship. I enjoyed it though, as did most others. Here's one thread about it:

We sailed on the Oosterdam in 2004 in the Caribbean and loved her.

Those all sound perfect! You will look great on formal night! I would make it a point to either have some pics taken of your family either through the ship's photographers or have someone use your camera and take pics of your family all dressed up.
It is fine to wear pants, skirts or dresses for casual night - just not jeans. As long as you avoid jeans - you will be fine!
Have a great cruise!

I understand nice jeans are now OK for "smart casual" nights.

Yes, they definitely are o.k. Especially for a teenage girl on "smart casual" nights. As long as they aren't the ripped holey kind.

Meh, a skirt will be fine. And Belive me, There will be lots of pictures takes, mainly to show my friends back home that i can look like a girl when i want to. I'm more of a tomboy and wear just jeans and guys t-shirts... and most of my friends are guys so i have to prove to them that i can look like a girl and wear a dress:eek:
Which is kinda funny 'cause they picked out the dress...
But if i can find a way i will post pics
