View Full Version : Crow's Nest for Sailaway?

On our last two cruises, we've enjoyed sailaway from our balcony. This year we thought we'd venture out since our cabin is on the same side of the ship as other years and we'd like a new point of view. However, the Lido will probably be too crowded for us. How is the Crow's Nest for sailaway? Can we enjoy the view, and a drink, without a huge party?
Thanks!

I love the Crows Nest for Sailaway. It's a great place to go. No huge crowds but there are people there. I often move around the ship during sail away ... partly on the aft pool deck, partly in the Crows Nest, partly on the forward observation forward from the gym, or even down on the prow. Lots of places to go witness departure.

Oh ... I intended to ask ... which port are you sailing from? That can make a difference.

OOps! Sorry, ft Lauderdale. All of our cabins have been on the port side and this year is no exception. It really is fascinating to watch the ship being provisioned but we'd like to see open water for a change.

Ah ... ok ... sometimes they don't park the ships with the port side to the port side. :) Sometimes it's the Starboard side that faces port. It's been that case more than once for me. :)

At San Diego and Vancouver (to name two ports) the ships park nose-first. Hence, the ships BACK out into the harbor to begin their journeys. This means that one of the best places (IMHO) to watch departure from is the forward end of the ship. :)

We love the Crow's Nest for sailaway. We've sat on the deck during most sailaways and enjoyed meeeting new friends, but our first choice, especially this time in NY where the weather was awful, we met old friends in the CN.
The last 2 transatlantic sailings were delayed for more than an hour anyway and the CN is more comfortable and less crowded.

Ft Lauderdale - we have sometimes docked with the port side facing the pier and other times the port side faced the ocean. A couple of times on our back-to-backs we didn't even dock the same way both weeks.

Still love to be on the port side of the ship as it leaves Ft Lauderdale - better view going by the condos blowing their honrs, flashing their lights, and waving their HAL towels - although not as many do it anymore as in previous years.

I agree. We love the Crows Nest. I try to get my life jacket off fast--hand it to hubby and I go up to the CN and try to get the seat right in the middle of the ship. Great view and you see what is going on both sides of the ship. We usually have a balcony but still go to the CN. Penny

WE like the Crow's Nest for sundowns, but almost always do sailaway from the rear of Lido deck.

I love it up top, as high as I can go, right up front. Not just for sailaway from home port, but all ports. If the weather is poor, Crow's Nest is good.
