We are staying in a Verrandah suite, one of the great things about a suite on Celebrity was you just wrote down what you wanted for breakfast. i.e I love egg benedict and while it wasn't on the menu I wrote it down and got it about every morning. Is this possible on HAL?
Secondly do we stay with EST or does HAL change times with each port of call? Thanks in advance for the help.

HAL will change the times to match the time in the port.
As far as ordering items for breakfast that are not on the menu. I have done this but not Eggs Benedict. I'm guessing they will accomodate you if you order it for a time that the dining room is open for breakfast and maybe other times too.

Room service is the same from the penthouse suite down to the most basic steerage cabin. (That's where I live.) The order sheet is extensive, but not all-inclusive. If there's something you want not listed simply write it in. It's important to be specific---two pats of butter, dark toast, etc.
My understanding is that you cannot get eggs benedict via room service---it's only available in the dining room.
As far as time goes, HAL changes time zones as it travels the globe. There will be a notice in the daily program, as well as a note under your pillow chocolate advising you to adjust your clock/watch.

The only eggs available on HAL in the suites is scrambled eggs and omeletes. On occassion we have been able to get fried eggs - but very seldom. Eggs Benedict - a no go!!!
HAL is very good about changing times in the different zones. There should be a note on your pillow under the chocolate. And it will be listed in the daily program.

Last year on the Zaandam we were able to order eggs sunny side up, over easy, etc for room service breakfast. Eggs in a variety of ways were listed on the form to hang on the door. Has this changed since then?

There was the breakfast order form, plus the room service menu in the book in your cabin. A couple times I wrote down on the order form items that weren't listed, but were in the other menu, and we got them. (Wasn't eggs, it was smoked salmon, but they were accomodating).

In addition to that little notice under your pillow chocolate, there will be a notice of time change in the Daily Program that arrives in your cabin each evening to announce the next day's activities.
Last November on the Maasdam, our cabin steward put the notice of time change (back) on our pillow the night before we docked in St. Thomas instead of the night we left St. Thomas. We did not double check, and missed our St. John shore excursion the following morning. A real disappointment for us, as we had been looking forward to a day at Trunk Bay.
All the pax in our steward's section of Lower Prom got the same mis-information. When we called it to the attention of the Shore Ex. staff, our money was refunded. There was great concern that some pax might not come back to the ship at the right time from independent trips due to this error. Apparently all did make it back on time.

I have ordered and received Eggs Benedict in my cabin. Once I called Room Service and the other time I wrote it on my door hang tag. This happened on Zaandam and Rotterdam. I did not ask on the Vista class ships.

I always got eggs benedict from room service on all of the ships until last year when we went to Zuiderdam. They had a person in charge of Room Service at the time who handled it so poorly it was incredible IMO
Not only did she become the first to refuse to send eggs benedict to a Suite but instead of calling and telling us (and at least three other people we know of) they would not deliver it, she simply sent my husbands order and sent nothing for me at all. Had she called and said she was not allowing eggs bennie, I would have ordered something else and at least have had breakfast. The way she did it to all of us, my DH had his fried eggs, his bacon, his breakfast........I had no breakfast.
When we called to ask why it was handled so badly, she said she was busy and it would take at least 30 minutes (at the least) for something else to be delivered. So we had to waste his breakfast and leave it sitting there. Get dressed and go to Lido. Had we wanted to go to Lido, we would have gone to Lido in the first place.
The irony is, we were invited to the Captain's Table that cruise and she was there. One other couple at the table that evening had the same thing happen to them. When they learned she was in charge of Room Service, they started talking about it with her. I was not going to say a thing about it in front of the Captain and planned to speak with her later. The other couple decided they wished to discuss it then. I only added that the same thing happened to us and shut up. She told us to order it for the next morning and we would get it.
We ordered it; SHE DID THE SAME THING TO US THE FOLLOWING MORNING!!! Amazing. I wonder if she still works for HAL?
Back to the eggs bennie question. I always got it on all the ships with the exception of Zuiderdam. I have not ordered it for about a year though. I have eliminated certain foods from my diet and white breads (white english muffins) are among those foods.

Oh My! What a story! She really had some large cahoonies didn't she???
That is so far from professional, I have to pray that she isn't still working for them. To make a mistake once is understandable, but you can be assured that the next morning it was just done in spite:eek: Thank goodness 99% of the HAL staff is not like that! There is always one in the crowd though!

We do have a ton of stories from all our cruising.....as does everyone else. I think it fun to share them from time to time.
And you are sooooo correct. She is certainly not typcial at all!!!

Dad got eggs benedict through room service and he was in an inside cabin!!!! This was a few years back, but at one time even us "steerage" people could get eggs benedict.

Doone.....I was speaking specifically about Zuiderdam not allowing eggs bennie for Room Service. On every other 'dam' ship that I have ever ordered it, I received it. However, I have not ordered it for over a year so want to be clear that my observation is over a year old.

Sail,
I have to remark on how interesting to have a diet that allows Hollandaise, Canadian bacon, and egg yolks, but draws the line at white bread . . .

I did not intend to imply that any of the rest of the ingredients are approved by many diets.....although alot of it passes as okay on Atkins.
First and formost, I do not eat 'white food'. I do not eat white rice, white bread, (rarely) white pasta, white potatoes.......
I was not into a total analysis of the making of eggs benedict.

I have never done Atkins, but now that I think of it, what little understanding I have of that diet, I believe that all EXCEPT the white english muffins are Atkins approved. Perhaps someone who follows (knows) that diet can confirm.
Thank you.

Yes I'm On And Off Of The Atkins Diet, Its High Protein And Fat No Carbs. So Eggs Bennie Minus The English Muffin Is Excellent On Atkins.

Thanks, vbacht. I thought it might be Atkins okay but didn't want to say for sure as I have only casually investigated that diet.
