As many of you know we just returned from our Yum Yum Man Worshippers Cruise on board the MS Oosterdam today. To my surprise we we received one of the new 2008 Tile designs. thought I would share it all with you. I did not see mention that anyone has said anything about this.

Interesting, Lisa. That's not the tile we received. Since it was our "first," we were thrilled to receive them!

We met Beda (Bada?) and took lots of photos...she's a sweetie. So is Alma (Elma?).

More later...just arrived home about 5:30...so it's bonding time with the doggies...our Brittany and Norwich Terrier. Then, unpacking and the never-ending laundry!

Welcome Home Sheila, did you get one of the 4 from last year's tiles. This one is totally new to me and was not previously listed. I also see that the previous web site that showed all the Mariners Tiles no longer works. That is great that you saw Bede :)

Hi Lisa (and Pedro),

When I got back to the cabin, after a night of revelry with my fellow Yummers, I found "The Tile" waiting for me. My first thought was "oh joy, The Tile - I had forgotten all about it". Like you, I was really happy to find one of the new ones. I really like it - in fact it's my favorite of all the tiles that I have received.

Glad that you, and all the Yummers that have checked in so far, made it home safely. I got off the ship about 9:20 a.m. and was home around 10:00 a.m. - ah the joys of living in San Diego.:D

Did you find a place in "the Shrine" for the plate?

Miss ya!

Valerie:)

Hi Valerie, it was so very wonderful to finally meet you. Oh and Thank you so much for the plate, Yes actually it will on the wall tomorrow with my other plates. The day we left I had found an Amsterdam Plate on eBay so that beautiful plate and the one you gave me will be joining the others on my kitchen wall.

BTW, I agree I like this new tile as well and things it looks a bit more traditional Dutch.

Welcome home, Yummers. I think the new tile is wonderful, too. Thanks for sharing it with us. We love our tile from our November cruise; it's the one of the mother and little girl looking out to sea at a ship. HAL should emphasize its Dutch traditions wherever practical. That new tile is a small but much-appreciated step in the right direction.

Yup, that's a new one allright, thanks Lisa. Here are the other two out so far for 2008 - Looks like HAL is continuing with the "poster/add" look:

Like the looks of the one Laffnvegas got.

Don't like the ones that John shows.

I received the following tile on my Jan. 2008 Zuiderdam cruise. I was thrilled as it was my first tile and I love it, but now I'm wondering....since it does appear to follow the "poster/ad" theme... is this also a "new" tile for 2008?

and a few extra questions

Are the tiles ship specific (different tiles on different ships?)
If more than one different type of tile is given out on the ship, is it easy to exchange it for another that you might like better?

Thanks.

Nope, yours is one of the 2007 set of four. The Zuiderdam must be using up "leftovers".
Are the tiles ship specific (different tiles on different ships?)Not any more. Before 2007 they had 13 different tiles in each set, and you got one that was ship specific. In 2007 they started the first 4-tile set. We got your tile on two different ships in 2007.

If more than one different type of tile is given out on the ship, is it easy to exchange it for another that you might like better?I don't know. If different types were given out on one of our cruises I wasn't aware of it. However, on our last cruise we got one tile that was poorly made (bad paint job) and my DW took it to the front desk, where they promptly exchanged it for another of the same type.

You can still see all the tiles on the new website, from the home page click on Mariners on the bottom of the page. Then on the Mariners Society page click on the Tile tab. Or if you want just click on this:
