How large are the TVs in the S category suites on the Ryndam and are they flat screen ones also?

Wld also like to know if there are just VCRs or are there now DVD players instead?

Appreciate any replies - thanks in advance..

Happy cruisin' all!!

We had a great time in a S suite (009) on the Ryndam in Alaska last July. The tvs are flat screen with separate dvd player and because you are in an S suite you can borrow dvds free of charge - concierge in the Neptune Lounge can organise collection and/or return of them for you.

Hope you have a wonderful trip - we loved every minute of ours.

We were also in S009 for a Sea of Cortez cruise last October. The TV's were widescreen LCD's and I believe 24" or 26".

We are mobility challenged so spend a fair bit of time in our cabin and as I love old movies I spend a fair bit of time viewing..

GEE, seems a so small for the size of the room and the viewing distance unless u intend to pull a chair right up in front of the TV.
I have been led to believe and followed this advice when purchasing our new LCD TVs, that u buy the biggest u can afford for the space - even I bought a 32" for a 5'-6' viewing distance.. and a 40" for an 8'...

But shucks maybe the TV was an afterthought OR perhaps HAL can't afford any larger :)

Many thanks for responding to my questions..

Or maybe because cabins are pretty small compared to rooms at home, they didn't want to take up any more space with a large TV than they thought would make most people reasonably happy. Though I suppose a 40" model could go on the wall instead of a piece of art.

Good thought - since LCD TVs cld be hung - they wldn't take up any counter space at all (easier for the stewards to clean the counters & folks wld have more space to place their items). However and this again involves $ - wld cost HAL lots more to hang them..

I agree in a small cabin an LCD TV at 20 - 26" wld be more than adequate (LCD TVs though do allow u to sit a lot closer than regular) but the suites I was talking about, on the Ryndam, are about 400+ sq feet (total 556 sq ft with balcony) so not considered a small space. I believe u will agree that a 24 - 26" TV is quite small in comparison to that size of room..and 10+' viewing distance from the TV..

Whatever, u nailed it when u said 'in effect' that HAL is spending just barely enough on TVs to keep most folks reasonably happy..

Have happy cruisin'!
