This was mentioned on Fox news this am and is running along the ticker tape. They says at least 100 guests are sick and being asked to sty in their staterooms and being given $100.00 credit. Is it that bad to make the news?
The just got off the Celebrity Century (very good value but we prefer HAL in every area) and they made jokes about Carnival all the time (I don't remember HAL making jokes about Celebrity) and one was that they never have sick ships like Carnival.

It was almost a year ago (in March) I believe the same ship was struck by this virus. I recall it sitting being cleaned in San Diego last year as we were watching from the Holiday Inn across from the pier. It will be the cleanest ship sailing when they are ready to set sail again.:)
Sorry, I just looked and it was the Oosterdam.

Groan.......
I'm going to go check the list to see which Hotel Manager is struggling with this mess. My heart goes out to that whole crew.

Media reports today are stating that this is the fourth suspected norvo outbreak on the Ryndam since early last year.

Looks like we were lucky -- no Norvo on our 23 day cruise on Nov/Dec.

I often see this virus referred to here as Norvo Virus.
It is not. It is Noro and Noro like viruses. Not to be 'correcting' anyone but for those who may wish to google or get more info, it might be important to know the name of it.
Thanks, Copper........ We know neither he nor his crew is having a good week. :(

The correct taxonomy for this virus is "Norovirus". It was formerly called Norwalk-like virus.
The name norovirus (Norovirus for the genus) was approved by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses in 2002

Exactly.
From time to time I see references here to 'Norvo' Virus, which it is not.

So your big correction is that it is "norovirus" rather than "noro virus"?
Funny whether I Google one format or the other I still get the same information. (and Google alerts me that it is one word instead of two) So I don't understand the point of the notes.

No..... if you are referring to my post, I was suggesting there is no "V" in the Noro part of the name of the virus.
Some folks call the virus NORVO

Here's another report http://news.aol.com/story/_a/more-than-100-fall-ill-on-cruise/20080226085209990001 However what I found interesting was the comments below it. On the Noordam (2/6 - 2/16), it was reported that some sick passengers received $100 "a day" compensation. Guess it depends upon how convincing you are at complaining. We never did receive a factual count of how many had the virus. The captain would say one thing while the crew another. What alarmed us was that the spouse wasn't quarantined and free to go however they please as long as they didn't show symptoms.

Since they are required to report every case of Noro, I doubt the 2/6-2/16/2008 trip qualified for a CDC report. I've heard different things about that trip -- some were left alone without any help and others were compensated.
Either way, that particular cruise hasn't shown up on the CDC site, although another sailing after that did, indicating it was less than 2%.
