My wife wants to take a Holland America 20 day Glacier Bay & Great Land Bank Tour. How in the world does a couple pack for such a varied and protracted vacation. I mean, you need different types of clothing for different types of activities. How do you haul all that different clothing around? This question is my one big hold up against immediately agreeing to this trip. I just don't want a lot of hassle or to be a baggage porter for my wife's extensive clothing needs. Any other guy had this same problem? Help!

1) you don't handle your bags that much, others do it for you
2) do you really want your wife complaining that she doesn't have <some article of clothing> for 3 weeks?

If you do the land part first and cruise second (which I recommend) you can pack separate bags for the cruise and send them ahead to the ship from your first hotel stop.
But, as Dave said, don't worry about handling bags. The most you ever have to do is move them from a hallway into your room on arrival anyplace, and put them back out in the hallway when you're leaving. :) (At least until you're in your departure airport!)

We did only a 12 day HAL Alaska/Yukon Wilderness cruisetour and my husband and I each had a 29" suitcase on wheels with a 19" carry-on bag. The two suitcases are a great duo, the only problem is the new weight restrictions, 50 lbs just isn't that much when you are planning a 3 week cruise/tour. But guess we are stuck with it, I don't see airlines changing the weight restriction.
On the cruisetour itself, you really don't have to schlepp your luggage, the bus driver & tour director do that, all you have to do is have it outside your hotel room door each night. It's a great way to travel!
