My wife and I will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary while on board the March 12th sailing of the Volendam to Panama. I went back through tons of photos, etc. of our past 24 wedding anniversary celebrations and complied two picture CDs, containing approximately 230 pictures.

Does anyone know whether the TVs/DVDs in the "S" cabins will allow for us to view these picture CDs? If not, I guess I could always rent out a computer in the Internet Cafe, but that doesn't sound very romantic.

Our anniversary is the day we enter the Panana Canal and it would be very memorable to review the pictures just after we passed through the canal.

Any suggestions you may have would be appreciated!

Sounds like renting a laptop for $20/day is the way to go. I didn't see that option when I quickly reviewed all of the available amenities. Sure beats lugging our laptop around for 2 weeks.

I want the CDs to be a surprise on our anniversary day, and have our 25 year "flashback" be as memorable and romantic as possible. Lots of great memories to recall ...........

Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the help! Before you rent a laptop on board try your picture dvd in the player in your room, I believe it will work fine. I know that I have played mp3 music dvd's in the cabin and I believe the player will also play jpg dvd's

I think the DVD players CAN show photos.

If you have a good library with public computers, I would try to use those machines to upload your photo CD's to a library computer, then burn the photos to a DVD. That way, you won't have to wonder if the in-cabin DVD players will handle your CD's.

Before I had a laptop with a DVD drive, someone sent me a photo DVD ... I used the computers at our library to upload the photos to the computer and burn them to a CD.

Just a suggestion. And, if you don't have a nearby library with public computers, perhaps a friend of yours has a computer with a DVD drive. Betcha he'd be willing to burn the DVD for your special celebration.

Thanks for all of the great suggestions! Looks like I have a few options to pursue before heading out next week.

Ahoy!

I would suggest asking RustaRoo on the "live from Volendam" thread what 'flavor' (brand) of DVD players are in the cabins.

I can say that on the Prinsendam this past summer the players were CyberHome mini DVD players (they used to sell them at Walmart for approx. $50). I only know because we had one in our bedroom for a couple of years prior to upgrading. They do play JPG & MP3 files but you need to navigate around some using the remote (which I might add, like most remotes, are designed for a gerbel's paw). Plenty of 'useless' buttons IMO.
I'm a 'keep it simple' kind of guy (On/Off, Play/Stop & Pause works for me).

In so far as a laptop, we use ours for burning memory stick pics, slide shows in the afternoons, stereo system (with a couple mini speakers & library of 2-300 CD's), journal writing, burning CDs of favorite tunes the DJ may not have in his library for post dinner dancing, WiFi in pre-embarkation ports, etc. I don't use ship board internet unless a port is cancelled and I need to cancel an excursion with a local operator, etc.

I rather spend my time imbibing the 'drink of the day' & viewing the 'pool
bunnies' topside.;)

Bon Voyage & Good Health!

You can rent a laptop? Where/when/how? Is there plenty of availability? All ships or only some?

I suspect it is, but I've only noticed the sign on the last three HAL ships I've been on. Just see the Internet Manager in the Explorations Cafe. You can also rent a wireless card if you have your own laptop that is not equipped.
