Sorry, another poll - but I am bored.
Does anyone go to the movies on board a ship?

Scroll up and read about holding hands at the dinner table in the dining room with people whom you have never met while one of them prays. That'll wake you up!

I go if the movie is good. Vista ships use the Queen's lounge (no theatre) and that's not so good.

285 days cruising and I've been to the movies twice---both times were long cruises.
On the final cruise of the ss Rotterdam we were tossed about at sea for days on end trying to avoid three (count 'em! three!) hurricanes. Out To sea was played on the big screen to help pass the time and I went.
Last year was 33 days at sea, so when I had an opportunity to see Chicago one more time I did.
That's the nice thing about a long cruise---there's time to enjoy one thing without feeling you're missing something else.

I love to watch movies on cruises. Saw 3 or 4 on our seven-day cruise last November. I would sometimes pick the movie over the nightly entertainment.

I always say I`m going to go but have never made it yet!! One thing I have noticed is pax carrying sweaters, blankets etc. into the movie, Is it really that cold in the theatre?....jean

I like going to a movie if the ship has a Wjang Theatre in the late afternoon if I feel I have had enought sun and read enough for that day. I do not know how to play bingo or casino games.

I watched "Under the Tuscan Sun" on Oosterdam last March. I might not have seen it in a large screen format otherwise. Seldom watch movies, though.

DFD1 - That was my point ;)
All kidding aside, I was thinking in terms of a "lighter" topic - so I thought, "why not another mindless poll?" :)

We tend not to go to the movies, but love the fact that many movies are also aired in our stateroom. It was sometimes fun to watch one before or after dinner while relaxing! That way the movie is running but if something interests us on the veranda, we are free to go out there too! Also love the fact that in a veranda cabin you can borrow movies for the VCR or DVD to view in your room. We were able to see a couple we'd missed but heard good things about, and it cost us nothing so if it wasn't to our liking we could just return it!

We enjoy going to movies, but some of the other lines we travel don't offer them anymore, except on TV in your cabin.. I'm glad to see there's movies on the Oosterdam..
I must of missed the thread mentioned in the quote below. I read 2 different post about religious views on cruises, but only one reply mentioned where all the guest at a table on a certain cruise held hands and said grace together, starting at the 3rd meal, and for the rest of the cruise...

When the popcorn machine is outside the theater I get a bag but don't go inside. Does that count?
(I hope you people realize I joke a lot.)

I think it's cold in the theater - maybe just after being outside by the pool, then coming in - I don't know... I do get a bit chilled sometimes.
I have fallen asleep once or twice too. DH will start nudging me if I snore... :)

YES, popcorn snatcher - it counts! I always wondered what happened to all the popcorn when the theater is practically empty - now I know!
Watch out for lipoppop :D

O.K., now. If taking the popcorn counts then I've been to the movies on board about a gazillion times! Sometimes I wonder if that's why it's on the table in the Wajang Theatre now, instead of outside!
Gosh, I hate it when I have to go in and disturb those watching just to grab a bag or two!
Back in '98 (?) Titanic was on the TV it seems every day. I'd settle down for my afternoon nap with it on, fall asleep, and catch a glimpse every time I rolled over. I figure I must have seen it at least 10 times, but never straight through.
How'd it end, anyway?

Never seem to go the movies at home so if something sounds good I'll go when on board - if I remember the start time - and never without a pool towel or sweater! I swear they keep the theater cold to keep people awake!
In the Caribbean, I very often go on a port day.
Ruth, you can have my popcorn! :p

Have never gone to a movie while on a cruise and will never go to one. Have better things to do on a cruise than sit in movie theater - like sit on our verandah and watch the ocean. However, there have been times when we do go and get some popcorn to enjoy out on our verandah.

I think we've been twice. It depends on the movie and what else is going on. But generally I agree that there are better things to do on board a cruise ship.

If we do go to the movies, it will usually be on a sea day or at night time and it will have to be a good movie that we have not yet seen, except for the one time we went to see "Seabiscuit" for a second time.

I seldom go to movies when I not cruising, so if I'm on a cruise I often will take the opportunity to catch up on a few of the movies I hadn't seen before particularly if it's a sea day.

It depends upon the movie and what else is going on. On shorter cruises, no ... I don't bother; on longer cruises, when I have more time, I may very very well go if I want to see the movie and there's nothing better to do (being tempted by the Casino does NOT qualify as something better to do). :D

We tend to go to the movies quite a bit. What we don't manage to catch in the theaters we rent on DVD. So by theb time the film may be shown on a ship we have already seen it or it is something we don't care to see, plus usually on vacation there are a million other things to do.

My wife and I are movie fans - but we think selective.
If we think it might be good, we'll go - otherwise we skip it. I would much rather watch a movie in a theater than my cabin.

I rarely go to movies anyway. Have been to only one on a cruise, and was appalled that it was frequently punctuated by very loud bingo announcements, piped right into the theater.

We frequently go to the movies on a cruise. It's part of being very relaxed and enjoying ourselves without pressure, which is why we like cruising.

The water put out the fire.
Seriously, your post reminded of me of seeing that movie in the theatre when if first came out. A couple of seats away from me were a couple who were accompanied by an elderly lady. When the movie ended and as they were leaving, I heard the older lady exclaim, "well it was a pretty good movie, but entirely too much water!" I was floored at the time, but whenever I think about that comment, I can't help but smile.

I voted "Depends on the movie". I will probably go to one movie during a 7-10 day cruise.

We love going to the movies but usually at home we only go in winter. I hate wasting a beautiful day indoors.
When we are at sea, we will see if a good film is on and if it is we will go. Otherwise we will just enjoy the restful day.

It depends on the movie, but not often.
Best movie was watching Hunt For Red October as we sailed early from Bermuda to NY to avoid a hurricane tracking for Bermuda. Talk about "special effects" as we were tossed around the ocean.

Another popcorn snatcher here...
Our cruise was so port intensive that we just didn't have the time. On a longer cruise, I would certainly consider it. We rarely get to the movies at home, so this would be a treat.
