I'm looking for a wine shop near port or another convenient location while exploring Montevideo. Any recommendations?

There are wine shops at the Mercado that is near the port.
As I recall, there was also a grocery store near the port that had a rather nice variety of wines.

If you are planning to go anywhere outside the old city, go to a supermarket. The best is a chain called Tienda Inglesa, and there you can choose between Uruguayan, Chilean and Argentine wines. Don't discount Uruguayan wines - there are some extremely good ones. Preludio, from Juanicó, for example. Uruguay just has less to spend on advertising then Arg and chile!!
