View Full Version : F.O.D. on HAL?

With all the religious service discussions taking place on the board, I was wondering if there was a regular F.O.D. meeting scheduled on HAL ships. I know that "Friends of Bill W." meetings were held every day on my last Carnival cruise, but not a F.O.D. get-together. Is this something the staff would set up if requested? Thanks for any info! :-)

I know they have "Bill W" meetings on a regular basis, but I`ve only been on a couple of cruises where they have had F.O.D. meetings. Maybe they were set up by a group, or requested prior to sailing....jean

I've seen Friends of Dorothy on the Daily Program once or twice ... I think it was set up by the Cruise Director for a TA and a group she had on the ship that cruise.
I remember people voicing their curiosity as to what "Friends of Dorothy" were, and their surprise at the answer. :)
Can't say I know how to go about asking to have one scheduled. Sorry!

I've never seen FOD meetings in the daily bulletin on a HAL ship, but that doesn't mean you can't set one up with the CD. Check early, bring whoever might want to attend with you (there's strength in numbers). You might also want to scout out a few rooms to see what's not being used at various times of the day or evening. I mean, HAL chartered a whole ship to Olivia a few weeks ago.

I, also, don't remember seeing anything in the daily programs for an F.O.D. meeting on any HAL ship that we have sailed on.

There's been regular Friends of Dorothy meetings on the longer cruises. And they're noted in the daily program, too.

We have been several long cruises (22 days) and have another coming up in October.
Will definitely be reading the daily program everyday carefully to see if there are any F.O.D. meetings.

We had them but not everyday like FOB which had a set time and place. I checked out my dailies to verify.

Thank you all for your speedy replies! I'll be sure to check out the daily program on my upcoming HAL trip. And I could always ask the CD or one of the staff... the worst thing they could say is "no."

Hi there Greg:
I've never seen any listed so far on the 4 cruises of HAL that I've sailed, and I was looking for them .... LOL -- actually I'd have thought there would have been on the long cruise 18days from Vancouver to San Diego and Hawaii return that we took back in 2002, but there wasn't.
(nor have there been any on all the RCI Hawaii / Vancouver cruises I've taken...)
Oddly enough, the only FOD I've ever encountered was on "Regal Princess"
on a seven day Alaska cruise.
From what I understand and have heard from others -- all it takes is a request from a passenger to the cruise director and their staff, early in the cruise of course- to have incorporated into scheduling.
That said, even though we've never requested any FOD's, there has never been a shortage of meeting up with other people of ALL persuasions onboard whichever cruise or line we've sailed.
I do believe that's one of the nice things about cruising ... people seem to leave their fears and prejudices at home and are out to enjoy life to the fullest!
On a personal note Greg --- did your tix come in for your Sept cruise yet? I'm still awaiting ours for the Radiance departing same day ? Biting my nails ....... no doubt Canada Post has them somewhere in the conveyor belts .... I worry until they are in my sweaty little hands.
