Any ideas or experience on weather conditions on the crossing at this time of year? I love the sea days (10 on this cruise), however, my wife is a little skittish about storms.

Appreciate all of you who contribute to this site.

That particular crossing sails directly from Lisbon to Miami, with no stops in between. I am under the impression that Atlantic crossings usually take a week or less in modern days. Why is this one taking ten full days? Any ideas? Thank you.

We did a trans-Atlantic, Nov 95, on HAL's Maasdam, Lisbon to Ft. Lauderdale.

Very smooth from Lisbon to the Azores, very bumpy next two nights west of the Azores. Ship took water through the hawsepipe (anchor chainway), and some half-dozen cabins (ours included) flooded on Main Deck. Luckily, they had spare cabins to which we could be moved.

I think weather and sea state is always a crap-shoot!

That may be true of the QM2 (and, until recently, the QE2), but those ships were designed for transatlantic service. Most cruise ships are quite a bit slower than the old top-tier ocean liners. They don't need to be fast because they typically cover relatively little distance between ports.

Also, some transatlantic routes are longer or shorter than others.

Thanks for your reply. That makes good sense.
