We're in 5186 on the Oosterdam, 3/22. Is the deck totally open so that we can just sunbathe there instead of fighting for a good spot on deck?? Also, would be nice access to the restroom, drinks, etc!!!! Shoot, I wouldn't even have to bring a cover-up to go out on deck!!

ooooh be careful! Not sure where you are located but some balconies can be viewed from other balconies! We just booked an aft on the Navigation Deck on the Eurodam so that we would be "above" others. We did the same on Princess and Celebrity. Our experience on aft is that there is some sun and some shade. oh yes...very very convenient. We usually go out to the deck until we are tired of people watching and then head to our own private area. You are going to love it!

5186 on Oosterdam is uncovered across the wake except for 2 and a half feet over the door and window; the port side part of the veranda is completely covered. This will be until she goes into drydock for her aft lift and I forget if it's this year or next. I have pictures of all parts of the veranda on my Westerdam in Alaska post for 9/06. Westerdam 5186 was identical to Oosterdam's present configuration until May of 2007 when the aft lift was completed and the cabin became 5190.
I'm sure there are other pix floating around on this board.

Sunbathing was fantastic on the aft. The convenience factor is key. We found ourselves using the pool infrequently. The breeze was just perfect and the privacy was great. A few times I saw someone from the pool deck looking down and hardly ever saw anyone on the other balconies. Even if someone is looking, who cares, YOU WILL LOVE IT!:p

The pix are great. Just a little confused because the tags on the pictures say 6158 and we're in 5186. Are they the same category or are the tags mixed up? Whichever, that balcony looks fabulous!!

That's the deck above but it's essentially the same cabin inside and verandah wise. If you look at the photo that shows the verandah from above, yours is the verandah just below that.
So no nekkid sunbathing!

Does that mean my verandah is even bigger than those on deck 6?

On the Zuiderdam (pre aft lift) the stern balconies were very visable from the pool deck.

I agree; you could see onto all of them and they were not private at all. I was surprised to see this!

6158 and 5186 are essentially the same. I offered the photos only to show you what the veranda is like. We enjoyed the SC so much last time that we have booked SC6169 for next February 14th as SC6158 was already taken.
