I'm off to Alaska on the Oosterdam with a group next week, and have a question about the best way to pack wine. With all the wine that we as a group are bringing, I was thinking of consolidating it all into a standard case (like what you get at the liquor store) and just having the case taped up and checked onboard as a piece of luggage. Question is, I wonder if just a standard cardboard case is sturdy enough to prevent breakage, or should I consider getting one of those special wine cases with the insulated styrofoam inside, just in case the crew tosses it around a bit. I don't have to worry about anything with airlines, as we live right in Seattle and have to drive only 15 minutes from our house to the dock. My only concern is how it's treated from the dock to our cabin.

Anyone have experience in this department? Thanks--

I have each bottle put into what looks likes a fish net and then into the insulated styrofoam box. The porters collect it with my baggage (box also has GLASS marked on it) and off it goes. I have yet to have a problem.:p Don't forget to take a bottle opener with you. I also leave the bottles in the box and turn it on it's side for the duration. Enjoy your wine and the Cruise of course.;)

My Mom just puts it into my bags - and if it gets found or broken she blames me as usual!
