Where do you store your laptop while on the ship, or off? How do you lock it up since the safe is too small? Am considering taking mine to download pictures, but am concerned about it being stolen. Thanks for your thoughts.

I use a security lock. Mine has a long enough cord to wrap it around the hanging rod in our closet (or anything else that would be cumbersome to remove).

I use a cable lock the same as Spot. I even do this with my laptop in my home and the laptop at my shop. Those are the first things that thieves will go after during a break in. You can get them with a combination lock or a key lock.

You are right, your laptop won't fit into the safe.

You can also lock it in your carry-on and stow the carry-on in the bottom of the closet.

Thanks for your help. Still don't know if I want to drag it along or buy lots of memory cards.

I don't know if you are flying to the cruise or not but a lap top is a pain in the *ss to travel with. I would bring more memory cards if I were you.

My laptop sits on the dies in my cabin, in my hotel room or in my den without the need for locks. Just don't lose sight of it in the airport! No one on a cruise would be dumb enough (I hope) to try to steal a laptop from your cabin - where would they go with it?

As to traveling with a laptop, the benefits far outweigh the need to place it seperately on the conveyor.....

I agree. I figure the only person coming in is my steward - and why would he risk his job for a laptop?....

I would not worry too much about your laptop being stolen from your cabin. You might mention to your cabin steward that if he leaves your room, even briefly, while cleaning to go get something or for whatever reason.....to be sure to close the door. Tell him you would not want someone having access to your cabin and laptop with the door left open.

Too often, cabin doors are left open while the room stewards go to get towels, fruit, etc. Anyone can walk in and grab something real quick.

There have been reports of cameras that have disappeared from cabins - a couple of people mentioned it on this board.

Yes, it is too big for the safe.

I have locked mine in the nightstand, next to the bed.

Thanks for all the replies! Think I'll just carry more cards. Just got a 10x optical zoom camera and can't wait to use it on the cruise. By the way,
BC Eagle, how can you lock it in the nightstand? Drawers don't seem that big on other ships (not HAL) I've been on.

I agree that I cannot picture being able to fit most laptops into the lock drawers on most of the "dam" ships. Mine would not fit. Only Noordam, perhaps. Our Suite (mini-suite...whatever they call it) had a large, deep lock drawer. But the drawers on the other ships are not that large.

A laptop security cable with a lock is less than $25 and can be purchased at any Circuit City store. Allways a good idea
