We have a guarantee for a BB in February 2005 leaving Norfolk. As of today, there are no more BB category cabins left. Does this increase our chance for an upagrade? I'm not sure how this works and it is our first time on HAL and first time with a guarantee. It seems awfully early to be sold out of a categorty already. There are plenty of A, B and S cabinis left. Thanks for your help.

Possibly. But it is also possible that someone who has already been assigned to a BB may get an upgrade thereby freeing a BB cabin for you. It could depend upon things such as how much each of you paid, when each of you booked and various other "upgrade fairy" unknowns.

Thanks for the response. We'll be happy whatever happens. Really looking forward to our first time on Holland America. You love it so much, I know we will too. No matter which cabin we're in.

When you booked your cruise, did your TA ask you if you would be interested in a free up-grade? If so, he/she may have marked it down when they sent in your paperwork to HAL.

That sometimes helps.

February is a long ways off. Anything can happen.

Check the deck plans for the ship and you will see how few BB cabins there are compared to the A's. This might give you hope about the upgrade. The BB's are less desirable because of their location.

Just got back last night from a 7 day Alaska cruise on the Statendam. We had a BB guarantee and it became an S suite for no extra charge. This happened to several other people that we talked to, so anything can happen. Our ship, by the way, was sold out more than a month before we sailed (cause our friends got the last inside cabin on the ship), so being sold out, doesn't mean you won't get an upgrade. I don't exactly understand how the system works. We booked a year ahead, but many people think we got such a nice upgrade because our travel agent must have some sort of clout with HAL. Don't know if that's true or not. Just happy we got it!
