IN the 1990's DW and I were given felt slippers that said HAL on them. They were a giveaway in all cabins on the Ryndam (hotel type slippers)
Reading another post reminded me of those, and I was wondering if anyone else remembers them, and when did HAL cut them out of the amenity package...:) Jer the Bear

I cruised HAL most every year in the '90's. Never had a pair of HAL slippers.

We got free slippers two years ago - no HAL Logo - just white. Time for a new pair so had to book another cruise. :D

We got slippers when we had a deluxe suite--not with any other category cabin.

Only time I received slippers was the occasional sail in a Deluxe Suite. They were size 5-6 inches too small for my dogs.

I just asked the chief housekeeper for a pair when I saw him and they were in my cabin that evening. They are great and pack so well.

I'll bet that I can't get them in size 15!

We get the slippers on almost all cruises. Sometimes they don't leave them but if I want a pair, I ask. We are always in an "S" so maybe they are now limited to certain category cabins?

What are the slippers like? Are they comfortable enough that I can leave my own at home?

They are flat bottom, open toe slip ons and IMO are perfectly adequate to use for trotting around your cabin to the restroom in the middle of the night and such. I never bring slippers on a cruise anymore. We either have the HAL ones provided to us or I use flipflops. What does one really need in terms of going from bed to restroom? It isn't as though I spend the day wearing them. :) One less thing to pack.

We had slippers while in S suites on HAL in the past, but on Zuiderdam last October we did not receive them in our SC. I asked the Neptune Lounge concierge, who checked and replied that the ship was out of them (we were on the repo cruise back to Ft Lauderdale after the Alaska season).
When we got home I emailed HAL, saying I knew it was silly and picky, but I missed those slippers. About two weeks later comes a package in the mail from HAL ..... two pairs of slippers with a Customer Service rep's business card and nice note. That's good service!
And I agree with Sail7Seas and Kakalina ... I keep the HAL slippers in my totebag and use them whenever we travel, cruise or not. They're small and easy to pack, and I prefer slippers over bare feet on some of the questionable carpets in hotels these days....

I was thinking of something I might wear to scurry across the hall to the Neptune Lounge for a cup of tea in the morning. But I don't care for the open-toe kind, so if I'm going to want to wear slippers around the cabin at all, I'll have to bring my own.

Just re-read the posts, and our HAL slippers weren't open-toe. They were closed-front slide-in waffle slippers (like the robes) with a plastic/rubber sole. Perfectly fine, IMHO, to wear for a quick morning visit to the Neptune Lounge. Now, wearing the robe to the NL is another story ... and that's been discussed here in the past, as well....

I just looked at the last few pairs of slippers we received and agree they are not open toe. Closed toe.
Our cabin is almost always within one or two cabins of Neptune Lounge, and every morning DH wears his robe (and slippers) to get our coffee and whatever else. He is gone about 3 minutes total. He and a great many others make the LOOOOOONG trek, the huge distance of about 12 feet in his robe. I think he plans to continue doing so. :)

I like to joke that those slippers are the most expensive shoes that I own, but they did come with a free cruise....:D
We have a new puppy, who recently got a hold of one of DH's slippers. By the time we discovered him happily chewing away on it, the sole was filled with tiny tooth marks, so we let him keep it. It's now his favorite toy, and I have to say it has held up very well so far....

I use those chinese shoes the teenagers wear as slippers. They go for about $3.00 on China town and come in many colors.

No slippers for us on our Zuiderdam cruise. But I honestly didn't even know this was something they did, so i didn't miss them.

One guarenteed way to acquire a pair of slippers on HAL is to go on a Grand Voyage (sort of an expensive way!) Very nice and colour-coordinated to the logo of the cruise.

If anyone has a photo of these slippers it might help me figure out if I need to bring my own. I am fairly particular about slippers.
I'm not going to bring my own robe, though. Just not worth the luggage space given that HAL provides robes of SOME sort.

Make yourself happy and if you are particular about slippers and it matters to you, bring your own. Would be a shame for you to be disappointed by not having slippers with which you are comfortable. To me, it doesn't matter in the least. Anything that covers my feet and anything with which I can walk to the 'loo'.

Thank you!
I think I'll be bringing my own, if they fit in the suitcase.
