In the last three days three major Airlines have cancelled Hundred and Hundreds of flights to check stress cracks, and wiring bundles. I wonder how many cruisers were affected, and if very many missed their ships....that's why it is always better to fly in a day early. I wonder if those who had cruise insurance were reimbursed...and I waonder how many Ships delayed departure to wait for passengers. Would HAL reimburse you for a missed cruise if you made Air Reservations thru HAL ??

If you purchase your air through a cruise line, they will cover you if any changes are necessary. All trip insurance I am aware of cover trip interruption and trip delay. You can buy a new ticket on another airline if you need to and get reimbursed.
I would imagine that there were some cruisers who were affected by the canceled flights of American Airlines/American Eagle, and soon to be Delta.

This is one more reason why it's smart to always fly in a day early. You never know what can cause a cancellation of a flight.

I work for a regional airline based in Memphis and I can tell you that maintance issues do come up.
Last night I was at work until after 1:00 a.m. (my schedule time off is 9:00 p.m.) due to an aircraft on maintance hold, the flight boarded and then there was still maintance issues. The flight finally canceled.
But maintance holds, late inbound aircraft, late connecting crews, too early aircraft arrivals and departures can all have an effect on traveling.
Take it from someone who works with aircrafts on a daily basis, leave a day early. You don't want to start your cruise off in a stressful manner!!
Happy sailing!!

Trip Interrruption insurance is the only thing, with certainty, that will cover cancelled flights. This " boilerplate" is from the HAL cruise contract and is consistent with other cruise line contracts:
Liability and Relationship With Airlines: We will use our best efforts to arrange for your air transportation. If, however, due to any cause beyond our control, we are unable to arrange for air transportation (including, for example, because of capacity controls placed upon us by airlines due to the types of fares under which we book) or the air transportation we arrange is unavailable or otherwise fails to materialize, our sole liability will be limited to refunding the air add-on paid or cruise only credit.
Our relationship with airlines is that of an independent travel agent. We assume no liability for any acts or omissions of any airline including, without limitation, those involving cancellation of flights, schedule changes, re-routings, damage to or delay or loss of baggage, flight delays, equipment failures, accidents, pilot or other staff shortages, overbooking or computer errors. Accordingly, you will not have any right to claim or recover against us as a consequence of any act or omission of any airline.
The liabilities and obligations of an airline to you, and your rights against an airline, are subject to any and all terms and conditions of the airline's ticket and tariffs and any and all governmental laws and regulations bearing upon or otherwise relating to such rights, liabilities and obligations

I couldn't agree more.
These delays and glitches often result in mishandled/delayed baggage. In this case, the vast majority of bags are returned within 24hrs...so it is a good idea to budget for at least that when you book your flights.
We allow 2 days and on 1 occasion (flight to Istanbul) it really paid off.
Also, it extends your vacation a bit.:)
