My DH and I will be on an Alaska Cruise Tour in May. We hope to do a Panama Canal cruise in April 2009 and will be joined by friends. Can we also "early book" for them at the same time we early book for us and eliminate the huge down payment usually required?

It is possible, I've done it. If they are Mariner members take their numbers with you, everything works off those numbers so it is much easier. Some of mine were not Mariners and it was a real hassle.

We did this last year and put down a FCC for my in-laws who'd said they were interested in taking a cruise. They weren't Mariner members but the onboard consultant got them signed up and the numbers were assigned after we returned. I had to be able to provide at least their birth dates though in order for the membership to be created.

Of course, now they've changed their minds and I'm wondering if I can't get those credits transferred back to my account! Heavenly, do you know if that's possible?

Unfortunatly they are non refundable or transferable. It can't hurt to try though!

Admittedly, this is picky on my part ... your inlaws, unless they have sailed HAL ever in their lives, still are not Mariner members. The onboard consultant likely entered all their info (name, address, phone, etc.) into the HAL reservation system ... but I question that she could make them Mariners.
