All of you can ask all the quetions you want to. I feel sorry for our fellow cruise critic mates that are trying to catch a cruise this weekend out of Ft. Lauderdale or Miami or wherever along the east coast of Florida.

I would advise all of you to make a plan B. Do not know what that will entail.
But I would suggest all of you do so.

From what I have read on these boards, no one knows what kind of situation will exist if the ships can't get back to their ports as scheduled.

Other boards seem to be dealing with more helpful answers and questions, then this board. These folks that are going out this weekend need your help.

Just my opinion.

At this stage in weather predicting, hurricane plotting.......it is all speculation and hypothetical. How could it be helpful to guess/surmise/babble when no one knows where the storm will hit/when; what HAL will do; where they may or may not divert ships to.....

Anything is sheer speculation and not much more than giberish IMO

Besides.....Not very many folks have come here to ask what will be. Yes, there was some discussion but most folks know it is too early to know.

JMHO....as always.,

Which Boards are being so very helpful.....how do they know what will be?

well I used to live in Florida. In fact I lived there for 15 years. Trust me, I lived through Hurricane Andrew. These people that sit back and speculate are dreaming. If you have plans and a situation like this is looming, make a plan B. Just some friendly and experienced advice.

Of course it is very nerve wracking but for someone who lives in Las Vegas (for example) who planned to fly to FLL Saturday morning to board Zuiderdam. What sort of alternate plans can they reasonably be making now??? Will the storm hit the Keys? Will the eye pass over Miami? Will it go further North? Too early to tell.

I live outside of Boston.....we get hurricanes here, too. We've had some pretty bad ones during my lifetime and are overdue for another. As it is, we will be visited by what is left of Hermine and Gaston....both will drop some heavy rain between now and about 8 A.M. tomorrow and will then move off. We know all about Hurricanes here.

I wish everyone well and hope Hurricane Frances totally changes course and stays out to sea. The way it is now it could hit from Cuba to the Carolinas.....

The only "plan B" I can see is "don't go." I agree with S7S that it is far too early to speculate on exactly what course of action will be taken next weekend if the hurricane stays on its projected course. If anyone is fearful of a potential weather situation, then they should go ahead and cancel and stay home. If they don't have insurance, or if it doesn't cover changing your mind, then they will be out the expense they have incurred. I think I would just go on line everything was on schedule. The worst I can see is the ship having to delay departure by some number of hours to let the storm clear.

Yes, I really have sympathy with those folks who are either on-board any ships that departed FLL this past weekend, or who have a cruise booked for this weekend out of FLL and for all the folks who live in the potential/actual strike zone for Frances. I agree that the folks who want to be heading to FLL this weekend, need to have at least a Plan B, to include cancelling. Even assuming they are flying in this Thursday or Friday, there is no guarntee at this point that their ship will be able to make Port Everglades. Looking at the projected path and timing of Frances at the National Hurricane Center web site, I have to wonder even if Tampa is a viable option. I bet the operations folks at HAL are pulling their hair out on this one! Is there any good choice? They will be second-guessed regardless of their and the captain's decision. Safety of the current passengers and protection of the ship from damage are probably paramount considerations to costs and inconvenience. I cannot imagine the feelings, emotions and anxiety being experienced by all persons who may be impacted by Hurricane Frances. Boy, talk about difficult decisions!

Personally, I'd like to hear anyone's past experiences as far as how the cruise lines typically handle things when they can't get into a home port due to weather. It may be early to get too excited over, but still interesting conversation , IMO. If I was cruising in 5 days, the embarkation port was dead center of the cone of danger, and the projected day was Saturday....I wouldn't feel premature in considering the options. Anyone not interested simply doesn't have to click...isn't freedom of choice great! As long as that baby is history by the following Saturday I'm happy! :D

Years ago we were to board a cruise ship out of San Juan for a Christmas cruise. Everyone got to the airport only to learn that our ship would be a day late getting back into San Juan. It seems that the captain of the Star Princess made a bad decision about not leaving St Thomas right away. Other cruise ships took the warning and left the port early. No hurricane - just some very strong winds. As a result, the Star Princess couldn't get out from Havensight and had to spend the night there. Princess had to find hotel rooms for everyone for the night. Then of course, the next day, Princess had to make a lot of plans for people who had missed flights, etc.

Hi, I'm from Mass and I live in Ft. Lauderdale now. I'll be on your cruise, God willing. We certainly do know what hurricanes are up there! Gloria--we had no paoer for 4 weeks! David, Juan, geez! Anyway, my nephew flew here from BDL during Charley--like exactly when it hit land on the other coast. It was fine. If you are determined you could fly to Orlando or Tampa and drive over. The problem is being in FLL and then waht if they cancel the cruise. Just take it moment by moment and lets pray it moves out to sea!

Yeah Bill!!!!

While we are all focused on our cruises, let's take a second and pary for people's safety. I am praying it goes out to sea.
