View Full Version : Westerdam and Veendam in Cozumel

Today I went down to Cozumel to meet a friend and had a chance to see both the Westerdam and the Veendam docked. I was able to get a better picture of the Veendam since it was docked at Punta Langosta and I was boarding the ferry to Playa del Carmen. The Westerdam was docked at it's regular berth at the International pier.

The taxi driver told me that construction on the pier next to the International pier (don't remember the name) is going well and that soon there will be more ships docking and less tendering. Today there were 4 ships in port and all were docked but had there been more, tenders would have been required.

Only 4 ships in port? Last month there were 10 others with us ! A whole lot of tendering going on. :)

Correction: make that 2 months - how time flies after a cruise.

It definetly depends on the day in Cozumel but I can only imagine how crowded the streets were with 10 ships in port.

There was another European ship tendering into Playa del Carmen also but I don't remember the name.

Thanks for the photos. They are particularly interesting to me because my first HAL cruise was on Westerdam and my next (which will not be my last! :D ) will be on Veendam.

Wow - I never really looked at a photo of an S class juxtaposed with one of a Vista before. Compared to Veendam's sleek, steamship-type lines, Westerdam looks like a floating wedding cake! I loved Westerdam, myself, and would happily sail on a Vista again, but now I understand why there was some controversy:rolleyes: among HAL veterans when the Vistas were first introduced.

Great pictures.

Wish we had been as lucky on our Veendam cruise -we love Punta Langosta - it is so close to town. Instead we were anchored at the International pier on the same day that the Westerdam was docked there.
