I was wondering about the food on MSC. Would love to see menus or get opinions of what is good or not?

I describe the food on the Orchestra in some detail in my review of my Eastern Mediterranean cruise last month: http://www.cruisecritic.com/memberreviews/memberreview.cfm?EntryID=39512

Thanks for putting a link to your review, as I wouldn't have read it otherwise, as we're booked on MSC Lirica, so have just been reading reviews for that ship.

This site is supposed to be for agents but it seems to work for me.

http://www.msccruisesagent.com/menus.aspx

You can find sample menus and drink prices along with wine lists.

Hope it works.

"glass of water, 80 cents"

is this for real?

thank for the link, this will certainly help me to decide if i am going to keep my next 2 cruises with them.

This is a European ship. Most Europeans would not consider drinking tap water and are perfectly happy to pay for a glass of bottled water. This was certainly the case on our recent Costa cruise. We asked for ice tap water, it was free and refilled often.

We did however, also start drinking "Gazeuse" as it was included in our X1 package. We noticed that all of the Europeans were drinking it so decided that "When in Rome......."

We haven't yet cruised MSC yet so I really don't know how it will be on this line. If you are going to try "non mainstream cruiselines" you must be prepared for some differences. I'm just happy the beer prices seem cheap;) .

I am really looking forward to this Mediterranean cruise and trying MSC! We travel very flexibly in other countries eating and drinking what everyone else does. The ONE thing that makes me kind of American is my water. When potable, I like tap. We drink a lot of water and I do not want to incur the cost or generate the shameful enviromental waste of all those bottles! I estimate we could drink $40-$50 a day just in water. I would rather that roll into the wine budget . Hopefully I won't be vilified for asking for tap H2o at dinner? I am having a bit of difficulty finding info on the wine packages. I am a little inclined to grab something local in port and pay the corkage at dinner. Does any one know if all the rooms have mini fridges? A little wine and local cheese may be a nice snack since there are no round the clock feed troughs.

We cruised last month on the Orchestra (E. Mediterranean) and got tap water in the dining room at no charge. Just ask for "ice water." Your regular waiter at dinner will quickly learn and you won't even have to ask. We refilled our own water bottles at our bathroom sink and chilled them in our cabin's refrigerator. We had the least expensive inside cabin (Category 1) and it had a refrigerator so I'm sure they all do. We did not buy any bottled water on the entire cruise. As for wine, we picked up two bottles of wine in each of several ports and they let us bring it on. Likewise two bottles of beer. But they did check to make sure it wasn't liquor/spirits. In the dining room, they charge 2.5 euro per person who drinks the wine that you bring to the dining room (corkage fee), which is very reasonable.

I have some menus that I can scan and post in the next few days. Will post a link when they are done.

Peabody: There are several wine packages. I have the info and could also scan that and post a link. The prices range from $83 to $159. With some of the packages, you can choose the wines.
There is also a carafe or half carafe of table wine that was $8 on a Caribbean cruise. We found that perfectly acceptable.

Like you, I would rather pay for wine than water.

thanks this is all good news above. I was finally able to open the link to the Caribbean menu that had the wine info. I think I will be grabbing local stuff in port when I can find a store. Interesting about the table wine. If it is Italian, I am sure it is good (at least for me!). French and Italian "table" wines usually are better than expensive California wines IMO.

this menu link is openning a sign in box when I click on it. The sign up for access is requiring a travel agent's IATA (or similar) number which I do not have because I am not a travel agent.

Does anyone else have a link to readable online Caribbean menus from a MSC ship? I went to the cruise clues page listed in another posting, but the print is too small and blurry for me to read. Thanks for the help!

I used that site a couple of weeks ago with no problem. I have noticed that MSC has been making small changes to their website, I guess this is another change...sorry
