Oosterdam-forward balconies

I read the forum regarding problems with aft balconies on Ooster/Zuider/Westerdam. Any opinions on forward balconies, specifically SS 5001?

I've not sailed in one but I saw photos posted online from some folks who were in 5001 on the Oosterdam.

Those forward staterooms used to be listed as handicapped A staterooms but appear on the HAL site to have been recategorized as SS. From what I recall they are quite a bit smaller than a standard SS - they have the same size veranda as an A, lack the larger bathroom w/ second sink and jacuzzi tub as well as the second desk/makeup area and minibar-fridge. Deckplans show a forward facing window - but there is none...

I think it's too bad that HAL did this - where it was a fair deal for someone who requires extra space, now its a step down from a real suite at a suite price.

Just booked this cabin (5002) today, you post depressed me!! Can you tell me where to look for photo's and are you sure it is so different that the regular SS suites?

I think I need to call HAL because if your info is acurate, why did I book it? I could have just booked a regular verandah cabin. Also, if it needed for wheelchair accessibility, what would happen to our booking-where would we go? And, I would never take away from someone who needs the cabin.

I was remembering incorrectly - it was the forward staterooms on deck 6 that are handicapped A cabins - and they still are.

5001 and 5002 are handicapped SS's - and they do have a smaller verandah then std SS's.

Other than that, I'm gonna keep my mouth shut...

of course your forgiven!!! I was just worried about what I bothered to spend the extra $$$ fore, if it was missing all the plusses!!

How much smaller is the balcony? Can you fit chairs, ottomans and a small table? Gotta have my coffee out there!!!

You can fit those on any HAL balcony....

looks to be about the same size as a std cat. VA Verandah...
