That's a 40% increase over the existing fuel charge!! I guess this was inevitable given the current prices we are also paying at the pump. All businesses are having to deal with the rising fuel costs, and it is obviously easier for them to pass it to their customers rather than absorbing it themselves.

I know this seems terrible but I can relate. My husband owns & operates a trucking co. & diesel prices less than 2 years ago were 50 cents a gallon, now it is 4.25 higher that prem unleaded. And I think ships use diesel fuel.
Someone has to pay for it. Fodd prices are going up because trucking is adding surcharges to supplement the outrageous fuel cost etc.

I'm a driver for a major trucking company and a former truck owner/operator who can relate. I sold my truck in June '05 when I saw fuel going up over $2.00/gallon with the freight rates not keeping up to where I could maintain profitability.

With fuel costing over $4.00/gallon many truck owners are paying as much as $1,000 or more just about every time they fill their tanks, and with most large trucks averaging 5-6 MPG nowadays it becomes obvious why it's so expensive to move anything these days.

The ships do run on Diesel Fuel. I remember seeing several tanker trucks at the Port of Galveston pumping fuel into the Carnival Ecstasy when my girlfriend & I went on our first cruise in November.

It's a very sad reality, but anyone who is involved in the transportation industry and expects to remain in business has no choice but to raise their rates to offset the rising fuel costs- and that eventually gets passed on to the customers who pay for a product or service that involves movement.

Airlines are going bankrupt in part to trying to keep airfares low while competing for passengers while fuel is on the rise. Whichever ones survive will be charging sky-high airfares before long.
