I just got my cruise documents for our May cruise on the Zuiderdam!!! (Somehow, having the documents in hand always makes it feel like it is closer!) We requested the main/late seating, and we got 8:00 p.m. Is this typical for the late seating? I had read that they are likely later, and I also notice that there is an 8:30 as well. How easily do they switch?

With the advent of the AYWD system, HAL no longer has two dining times for each traditional dining "shift" - early versus "main" (i.e., late). Since the lower dining room is now devoted to the open seating aspect of AYWD, only the upper dining room is available for traditional dining. "Main upper" has normally been at 8pm, and that appears to be what you have been assigned. The old "main lower" was at 8:30, but that no longer exists because of open seating. Hope that's clear.

8:00 is upper main seating, yes.

There is no 8:30 time on the Zuiderdam any more, just two traditional seatings in the upper dining room and the "open seating" (5:15 - 9:00) in the lower dining room.

Thank. Yes, it does say "main, upper." Ok -- that works. Wish it was a tad later, but it will be fine. I'll just have to fine another bicycle tour in Barcelona since the one we wanted to do, on our embarkation day, is four hours long and starts at 4:00.

We had the 8:30 seating on the Zuiderdam on Jan 12th, 2008. I guess you just go to the maitre de and ask for the change. I would think you wouldn't have a problem, since on our cruise, we noticed many empty seats at that time.
Have a great time!

The Zuiderdam did not adopt AYWD til mid-March ... so, of course, there were two early and two main/late seatings.
