We're thiking of going on the 30 day trip to Hawaii and Tahiti in Jan of 05. We were on the Rotterdam in June and it really needed dry dock. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what kind of shape the Stattendam is in.
Thanks

We will be on the Statendam in October and, like you, hope she is in good shape. For some reason, there aren't a lot of posts or reviews about her.

We just returned (Sunday, 8/29) from a seven day Alaska cruise on the Statendam. We were very happy with the ship and other than a few tiny cracks in our bathroom sink and a long crack on the little coffee table in front of the couch, I didn't see any problems. We were LUCKY to be in a suite (upgraded from a BB balcony). Furniture seemed fine - the furniture on the balcony seemed new and was very comfortable. I didn't notice anything like worn carpets around the ship or any other things in disrepair.
Do you have any specific questions? Have you been on the Statendam before? It's definitely not one of the bigger, glitzier ships, but that was just fine with us. Has all the amenities, as far as we're concerned, and never a feeling of being crowded, even though the cruise was full.
This was my first Holland America cruise -- my third cruise ever (the other two were on Royal Caribbean). We really liked Holland America - everything was done with class, for sure.

My goodness, Jean! You and Bill going again? More power to 'ya.
I can't speak to the Statendam as she is now, but I have done a long cruise with many of the same ports as this one. It's a lovely itinerary; a lot hotter than the one we just finished, but so-o-o pretty. If I can answer any questions about the ports I'd be happy to.

Hi Jean,
Glad to hear that you and Bill are well and considering doing another long cruise. I can't answer your question about the Statendam but I say "go for it". It sounds like a lovely cruise and you are both well and able to go. Go while you can. Enjoy your trip. I will be here (probably) with ice and snow(yuk) thinking of you. How bad can it be for thirty days. I would go in a heartbeat if I were able. Convinced yet?
