The weather channel says that Hurricane Frances is over San Salvador. Isn't Half Moon Cay on Little San Salvador? Am I correct in thinking they are in very close proximity?

Yes. You are correct. They are both near Eleuthra.

gizmo reported on another thread that it lloked like HMC took a direct hit.

Here is Gizmo's post:
AT 5 PM EDT...2100Z...THE CENTER OF FRANCES WAS LOCATED NEAR
LATITUDE 24.1 NORTH...LONGITUDE 74.8 WEST
Half Moon is at Latitude 24.35 and Longitude 75.55.
Looks like Half Moon took a direct hit.

yes, I believe it did take a pretty good hit. Hopefully HAL will reinvest in the Island and get it up and running as soon as possible. I feel bad for all those people who did not get to experience HMC on this weeks cruise :(

I hope HAL can get HMC up and running before our trip, looks like the Cabana's will all be wiped out. I really feel bad for the people in Florida and the ones that have waited for their trip this weekend. Hope and pray for anything or anyone in its path, we have been though one and they can be very scarry....

One big problem is that, as of this morning, the storm is moving at just about 9 mph. That's very slow. So it "sits" there and does lots of damage before it finally moves off far enough away. Thankfully it's dropped to a category 3. That's still a dangerous hurricane ... but with any luck at all it will continue to disorganize itself and not impose quite so much harm once it hits Florida.

You know, I kinda suspect that the damage done at HMC will be more superficial than disastrous. However, we won't find out precisely how bad the hit was until HAL has a chance to get out there and do an on-sight inspection. I will watch the Press Release page on the Media section of HAL's website for information.

Sitting home in Florida west of Fort Lauderdale. Just feeling the first serious feeder band from Frances. No rain but very gusty winds. The Abaco's are getting hammered now.
Looked out the patio doors at the golf course and thought I saw the pink cabana go by......hope they get it back on HMC by November.......

HMC is my favorite "port of call" ever. :)
So sad to think it's probably a complete mess right now. Seen some pics on the weather channel from Nassau & that looks a mess, so can only imagine how all the weak little structures & trees held up on HMC. :(

I feel truly privileged that our 8-28 cruise got a chance to stop there and enjoy that little slice of pure heaven. I only hope that beautiful Bahamian church was spared any serious damage.
Hopefully, HAL will be able to restore the island to its former pristine beauty.
Blue skies ...
