Do you have to pay to use the spa facilities, or just for the services? Is the gym open 24 hours? Any special spa treatments that are a must do?
Thanks!

The gym is not open 24 hours, I don't believe. There is no charge for the use of gym equipment, but there is for classes such as yoga, pilates, etc. The spa offers treatments for a fee. There is a thermal suite which is a separate charge. It has a hot tub or hydrotherapy pool, steam room, sauna, aromatherapy showers and the famous ceramic heated loungers. You can buy a pass for the length of your cruise or by the day, once onboard. Some people seem to like the lime and ginger body scrub or wrap - not sure exactly, but have seen it mentioned here. I just like the thermal spa.

I think the thermal suite is where I would spend most of my time - what is the charge to use it?

I was informed by HAL Ship Services that the Fitness Center is open 6am - 9pm, the Thermal Suite 8am-8pm. This for ms Amsterdam so don't know if it varies ship-to-ship. There is another thread on this board describing how the Thermal Suites manager on one sailing wanted to close up by 7:30pm and got into it with a passenger who preferred the advertised services were provided properly. The hotel manager/other authority had to be called in to referee.

It varies with the length of your cruise. There is a day only fee - I am not sure - it might be $40 for a day? Someone else will hopefully know more than me. You can also buy a couples pass and both can use it for the length of the cruise. It is well worth the price - IF you have the time to go and use it - if you aren't on a more port-intensive cruise.

$40 for a day pass (per person) is currently correct. It includes the hydro pool and the thermal suite. Spa treatments are often on sale on port days. I received the famous lime and ginger scrub along with a mini facial and back massage for $99 on the Westerdam last month. Glorious.

So all of us will know, did that wonderful special allow you access to the spa facilities that day, if so it is a great deal, as the day use pass is 40.00
