Just curious here.
Does it ever happen that offers are made during a voyage for folks to stay on for the following cruise?
If so, how does that happen, and is it a bargain being offered? Is it passenger initiated or HAL initiated?
Yep, I'm always thinking. :) :)

That's an offer that would seem like a dream come true!

Ranks right up there with my childhood dream, as I sat my nine-year-old self at the drug store counter as often as my allowance would allow, eating strawberry shortcake and dreaming that someone would offer me a job eating them all day long and telling passersby how good they were to entice them to sit down and have one.

Sadly it never happened.

Think I might do better with HAL? :) :)

No, but we have certainly spent hours & hours trying to find someplace to hide so we COULD stay onboard :)

I don't know, but it sure would be better than what I've always dreamed of doing -- finding a good hiding place :D

edited to say we must have been typing the same time CowPrincess!

Hummm ... sounds like I've got myself a bit of a pipedream. I thought I'd read a report of that here about 6 months ago. Maybe I was dreaming then too. Can't blame a girl! :) :)

Sadly no - no such offer has ever come my way.

Though in a not unrelated incident - when I whined one evening that I didn't want to leave, a hiding place in the crew quarters was offered up in good-natured fun. Such a nice lad, our illustrious photographer. He even offered to shop his roommate off to Bali (I don't know why Bali. It's just the first thing that occurred to him, I guess). It was very funny and we all laughed but I was having such a good time on the cruise he's darned lucky I didn't try and take him up on it.

Not a pipe dream, but don't know how real it may be today. 2003 on the Zuiderdam, caribbean cruise, we received a flyer a few days before cruise end offering another week on board. We were in a suite, and if memory servers the offer was for a outside cabin...at a very reduced rate.

When we initially booked the zuiderdam we had booked a balcony cabin, The first vista class ship was not filling up quickly and they kept reducing the prices before our final payment was due ....we ended up in a suite with an refund before final payment. Several people we met on-board opted to stay on for another week ..I'm digging back in my memory, but I think the price was something like 399 or 499 for the week if you stayed on board.

Exactly that happened to us several times on Zuiderdam as well as on Maasdam in the Caribbean. We were in "S" Suite also but they were not offered. The best category was Outside. The price was VERY low and some folks who did not have to travel by air stayed aboard for another cruise. We were always there back-to-back so it would have been b--b-b....... If we didn't have air reservation and DH was retired, sure we would have stayed. My memory is that it mainly happened for summer cruises....not during the fall/winter.

I was on the Zuiderdam in Sept/03, and my tablemates were on the second half of a btb, they were offered the second week at a really low price as well. I thought about $300 or $400. They were able to take advantage of the offer, but they are the only ones I know of firsthand.

Those were the days when the ships were not always sold out, filled to the rafters they way they are now. There actually were some empty cabins on many cruises that could be used to move guests to if something was wrong in their cabin. No more! They sell the ships out cruise after cruise. An unfilled cabin brings in no revenue and the nickel is squeezed way tighter today than it used to be as little as 5-6 years ago.

2004, Alaska, on the Veendam. I think it was $399 pp double occupancy.
Unfortunately, I developed a medical problem(not contagious) and needed to get home. It's unfortunate because I even had HAL air so it would have been easy since they would have made the arrangements.

Edited to say that the offer arrived by a flyer left underneath the doors.

Offers have been made, on more than one occasion, usually by flier slipped under the door as other posters have indicated, and also, usually at a VERY attractive price. Sadly, this has not happened in the past couple of years (that is, since we have been retired and could actually have the time to take advantage of such an offer!)

Now a days the ships always seem to sail full.

March 2004 we were in a full suite on the Osterdam ,Western Carrib. Half way through we were offered a "D" outside cabin for the following week for $379 on the Eastern Carrib. yes we stayed. The first week was my retirement present and the second week made it twice as good. Dave

Never been asked. Couldn't anyway due to work considerations. Now, it would be possible, but costly with regard to the airline change fee.

We have also been offered this opportunity but with pets and elderly parents could not take advantage. It does seem like it was a while ago.

On our first Mediterranean cruise aboard the Prinsendam in June/04 we received an offer via a flyer under our door for another 2 weeks visiting different ports for $600 pp. Unfortunately I had to get back to work; DH could have taken advantage of the offer, but he would have had a rather chilly reception on his arrival home! :p

Smooth Sailing! :) :) :)

It happened to me five years ago on the ms Rotterdam during a New England cruise. I was traveling NY to Montreal and was offered the opportunity to stay on for 7 more days on the return trip to NY. It was about $800 as I recall, which was a great price as I was traveling solo.

Yep, we were also offered an extra week for a ridiculously low amount ( $300 or 400) for a veranda on the Maasdam in 11/01. Many refused to travel at all after 9/11. It was a rough time for the cruise industry.
Unfortunately, I was unable to take advantage as I had non changeable flights.

When I was on the Rotterdam for a Mediterranean cruise in Oct. 06, I heard that several people had received e-mails just before our sailing regarding a reduced rate for the next 10 days following our cruise. Our cruise was sold out, but the following one was not. Some people heard about the reduced rates on board, and took advantage of it, adding another 10 days to our 12 day cruise. I couldn't do it as I had work considerations and would have had to pay airline change fees, but it was sure tempting.

Yes, this happened to me once, and only once, on HAL - it was my very first cruise with them in 1993 on the Nieu Amsterdam. I was working then and couldn't do it but I was sorely tempted as I was hooked immediately to cruising:D

We were on Explorer of the Seas the week of Sept. 22, 2001. So many people who were scheduled to fly to Miami either couldn't get there or were anxious about flying and the ship was half empty.

There were offers to stay on the ship for the next week for very low amounts....I believe the insides started at $99 + port and taxes.

Happened to us on Carnival, the December after 9/11. Staying would have put us onboard during Christmas and we wanted to be home at that time. ;)

With all the new Homeland Security rules, can you even do a non-scheduled B2B these days?

Hmmmm - I wonder what the change air fee would be to fly home from Rome 10 days late?
