Does anyone here remember what the last letter of the alphabet an actual hurricane or Tropical Storm has been named after? I can't seem to remember anything past the letter "I". Isabelle was several years ago right? Anything after that? I was just wondering if Ivan could possibly be the last one this season (with any luck).
I know that they pre-name them through the letters of the alphabet but don't know how many storms have brewed up to actually be named. I read in late spring that this was going to be an unusually busy hurricane season but this is crazy!! And we're only a little more than half through the season!! When will it end??!!

Well, Keith, Lenny, and Michelle have all been "retired" which means those names were attached to destructive storms...

So apparently the storms have at least gone through the letter "M". Travel partners name is Lisa. I was teasing her because this years "L" storm is going to be named Lisa.........I'd better be careful teasing her about that as our cruise is only 20 days away...eh? I don't want to be put in the position of the poor folks who were supposed to board on Saturday's "Z" ship!! And it looks as if the 25th sailing is just about full too!

Very interesting.

Living here in the north we don't really pay attention to all the storms unless they become really big name makers.

Opal.. I think was retired in 95. She was a doozy. Then there was Roxanne which hit Mexico.

Another bit of information I picked up from somewhere was that naming of hurricanes was revived during World War II by the Americans. One story tells of a radio operator issuing a hurricane warning and then he started singing a few bars of 'Every little breeze seems to whisper Louise', and the hurricane was thereafter known as Louise. Not sure how exact this story is, but it seems sensible.:)

Up here in New England we had Gloria in 85, that was pretty bad

Years before that we had Camille and Diane that did a lot damage up here

Can't comment on the name, but I heard on The Weather Channel just a bit ago that Ivan is one of the farthest south Atlantic hurricanes in recorded history.

But Phil, what if I win the MILLION? You only want $500.00?? Okay brother, you got it baby!! The sad thing for you is that it's now on paper and official!! LOL Don't worry........I never forget a promise ..........and if it were to be that I was asked a question that pertained to that subject I would have to look you up and give you your "just desserts". Not to worry, the better half would make sure that it was "just money"!!! Chef Nancy:)
