View Full Version : New to HAL -- Verandah Suite Question

After 30 cruises with Celebrity we thought we would give HAL a try. We are looking to book a Verandah Suite (AB, BB, or something like that) on the Ryndham. 10 day cruise to Mexico in October. Love the itinerary. But don't know what a Verandah Suite gives us but a balcony. Can someone please let me know before I book. A suite on Celebrity gives you a butler, and other perks.
Many thanks.

I think if you go on HAL's website it will list the amenities or you can open up the E-Brochure and scan thru the lising there.

From the HAL site (http://www.hollandamerica.com/cruise-vacation-onboard/Staterooms.action) covering staterooms:
2 lower beds convertible to 1 queen-size bed, whirlpool bath* & shower, sitting area, private verandah, no-host mini-bar, floor-to-ceiling windows.
284-398 sq. ft. with verandah*. See deck plans for specific information.
Additional Amenities
* Personalized cruise stationary
* Elegant bathrobe for use on your cruise
* Fresh flowers and fruit assortment
* Oversized bath towels
* A selection of pillows (firm, medium and soft) are presented on each bed for the guests' enjoyment.
* Luxurious beds featuring SealyŽ Premium Euro-Top mattresses and finely woven cotton linens
* A no-host mini-bar for easy entertaining in your suite
* DVD or VCR player and the use of an extensive DVD or VHS tape library
* 24-HOUR TELEPHONE CONCIERGE - Service available via special dedicated "At Your Service" telephone line
No butlers on HAL, the closest is the concierge. Those in the full suites do have access to the Neptune Lounge and the concierge there. The 'A' cabins have a phone concierge.

The Neptune Lounge is wonderful. There is a variety of food offerings throughout the day and an espresso - cappuccino machine. The concierge staff is most helpful with everything from shore excursions, Pinnacle reservations to purser functions. They are virtually worth their weight in gold!
Whilst I have never sailed with butler service I can't imagine that between your room steward, the Neptune staff and room service you'd be lacking for anything.
Obviously, I love HAL but must be honest - I have only not sialed on that many lines.
Happy Cruising!

The Neptune Lounge is wonderful...
The categories that the OP is considering are not entitled access to the Neptune Lounge.

That category is the same as a balcony cabin on Celebrity - no butler in either.

Yes, the Deluxe Veranda Suites have wall clocks.

Thanks for your replies. Verandah "suites" then are comparable to Celebrity's Concierge Class for amenities. Rooms are larger though.

But not alarm clocks?

I always remember on the Alaska Cruises the wall clocks changing time zones. At about 02:00 you would here the click click. I looked up at the wall and watched the clock moving around to the correct time. Always waited for the Twilight Zone music and Rod Serling narrating but it never happened. I guess I should have had a couple of more Scotches.:)

No alarm clocks in any cabin. If you want an alarm clock bring a battery-operated or wind-up clock; electric clocks won't keep accurate time.
The telephone system can also be used for a wake-up call.

Yes, the Deluxe Veranda Suites have wall clocks.
And for the life of me that's something I was never able to figure out.
Why on earth are there no clocks provided in all cabins? Wall or otherwise?
A clock is not exactly what would be considered a "luxury perk."
