Ride to Cane Garden Beach

Is the ride as scary and dangerous as some people have made it sound to get to Cane Garden Beach from the cruise ship dock?

The ride to Cane Garden Bay is straight up then straight down over steep hills on narrow winding roads from the port to the beach in an open air safari van (usually). You can opt for the traditional taxi but the route does not change. It can be a lot of fun, but scary for some. There are a few photo oportunities along the way both going and returning.

It was not scary at all. We went in an open air taxi and it was perfect. we stopped along the way for pictures. The view is beautiful!!! It is windy and up hills, down hills, around, and around. If you get motion sickness I would take a pill or something but it wasn't scary.

How much does the taxi cost and about how long is the trip to the beach?

the taxi over runs $6.00 and the same back, time is about 10 minutes i would say. also it is steep up and steep down but not scary but i guess it would depend on your driver!

If you're tall or have long legs, and you're on the end, keep 'em tucked inside! :D I thought DH was gonna get his knee caught! It is steep and windy and can be scary, I suppose. You ride in these:

Sometimes on the way back to the boat, the taxi will take a longer way back (more than 10 mins!).

We didn't think it was scarey at all. Our open air cab was full and we had a great time going up and down. It is truly worth it. Cane Garden is one of the most beautiful beaches we have ever been on. We got there early and stayed until we had to leave to make the ship. Try the conch fritters at the big pink building. Delicious.

where did the cab drop you off at cane bay? we are on the 11/30/08 explorer and only at port from 7am to 1pm, so i am also wondering if there is enough time for this. thanks for your response in advance.

The cab drops you off almost on the beach itself. Maybe 10ft from sand. He came back at the exact time we set up for return. We didn't have to pay until the return trip. He also recommended a vendor for our chairs and umbrella. He got us a $1 off on each.

Wish we could return this year but off to Alaska. No sunny beaches there.

The ride is not scary just has great views as you go over from one side of the island to the other. You need your camera ready for gaps between the foliage.
