A friend is leaving this Sunday.
And was wondering how the private island is doing after Frances ?
and if there is alot of damage, will the ship go elsewhere?

Thank you for any info....

Lisa

As far as anyone knows so far both ships are being diverted to other ports or staying at sea. They are assessing the damage now and will begin the cleanup. No real news has come out though. Good luck.

Here's the latest from DCL

The impact of Hurricane Frances has required us to make additional changes to some upcoming sailings.

Disney Wonder, September 9, 3-night Bahamas Cruise
Due to the planned closure of Port Canaveral through Thursday, September 9, we will be embarking guests for this cruise from Port Everglades in Ft. Lauderdale.

Transfers to Port Everglades will be provided from:

The Orlando International Airport
The WDW Resort
Port Canaveral
The Ft. Lauderdale International Airport
The Miami International Airport
Guests with flights booked independent of Disney Cruise Line should remain on their scheduled flights to avoid change fees. Guests who are driving are encouraged to park at one of the Central Florida locations including the Orlando International Airport, Walt Disney World Resort or Port Canaveral, as we anticipate debarkation in Port Canaveral on Sunday, September 12, 2004, pending the ports re-opening.

Our itinerary will include a stop at Nassau and a day at sea.

Disney Magic, September 11, 7-night Western Caribbean Sailing
Currently, there are no changes planned for this Saturday’s sailing out of Port Canaveral. We are prepared to make itinerary changes, if necessary, due to weather or other challenges at Port Canaveral.

Even though they don't have to because a hurricane is an Act of God, it's nice to see that the cruise lines are accommodating the passengers as much as possible.

My daughter read on the actual Disney cruiseline board at Disney website that the cleanup at Castaway Cay will take 2-4 months-Nassau is back open for business so for those of us on the Wonder the next few weeks will just have the one port and an extra sea day. It would be nice if we could just stay overnight in Nassau and leave like 5 or 6 p.m. the next day since we won't get Castaway Cay. Give everyone time to shop and go to the beach there. In Disney's case there is no casino so it would just be an extra port cost not lost revenue from the casino.

I read on the disboards that DCL said that CC had minimal damage and should be back in operation soon - probably not for the sailings this next week, but shortly after that. We are on the Oct 2nd Magic and hope that this is true.

Yep my daughter went back the next day and they said the damage was not as bad as they first thought. I guess that messageboard is just like this one- some are just guessing and unless it is a statement from Disney Cruiseline we should just take it with a grain of salt.

We sail Sept. 19-I would love to see Castaway Cay but if we don't I won't mind-I would be happy with just 4 days at sea if that is what is necessary.

If you go to Disney's website they have a message board there. It gets a lot more traffic then here at CC.

If you read my above post you will see where my daughter went back and people were saying the opposite. I guess that is true of all messageboards-sometimes things are rumor and not fact and if we really want to know we have to call Disney.

My daughter did do that 2 days ago and they said they were "acessing the damage" so were not sure when they would go back to Coco Cay but we would be going to Nassau (Sept. 19-4 day Disney Wonder) barring any future hurricane.

We all know weather can't be predicted and as long as our cruise is not cancelled I don't mind. (even then I will know it is for our safety) Hey I would be happy with 4 days at sea. We all know this time of year the weather is "iffy" that is why the cruises are a little more reasonable. I don't mind one bit. I have been on ship during a storm-when we went to Bermuda in 2002 we went between a hurricane and tropicial storm-yes we bounced around a little but I was never afraid and still had a wonderful time.

I hope it's back to normal by February. My 2 nieces have been looking forward to their 1st cruise for months :(

I called DCL this afternoon and was told that the Magic was not stopping at CC this week and that by mid-week they would hope to have answer for the 18th cruisers!
See you then!

Just got back from the DisneyWonder. We did not go to castaway on Saturday because a massive clean-up is underway. The Wonder was at Castaway Cay on Wednesday with its crew to help clean-up (That four day cruise had been canceled). The channel into the port and the docks are OK. The staff captain stated that the island should be ready for guests fairly soon. Port Canaveral is open ( thank goodness, the three hour trip to Ft Lauderdale on Thursday was boring.)

Looks like it was announced onboard that the 9/11 Magic 7 night cruise is headed to Castaway Cay on Friday after a slight itinerary change skipping St. Thomas and going to Nassau.
